1991 Debating success
As we enter a new school year, students will be making decisions about which extracurricular activities to join. Debating has always been popular at Mazenod, as the 1991 Mazenodian Debating Report by Darren Disney (Capt) and Gerard McCullock (Vice-Capt) testifies. They report on a successful year, highlighted by the “admission of Mazenod into the Avila region of the competition”.
The year finished with three teams as regional champions—one in each of the A, B and C grade divisions. English teacher Mr Leo Walshe played the critical role of leader, coach and organiser that year, as many teachers have before and since, ensuring students’ talents were optimised for success.
These photos feature debating students including the 1991 A Team group which consisted of:
Standing: C Jones, S Ferguson, G McCulloch.
Seated: D Disney, G Discala, D Wright, B Quinn.
