Leadership's Letter

Junior School

Last Friday, we welcomed our 280 newest Year 7 students and their families to the College, celebrating their official introduction to our community. The thoughtful address delivered by our College Captain established an excellent tone for the journey our newest students now begin through a Mazenod education.

Take a look at the emblem on your blazer. Those little words at the bottom are not just there for show. Those words translate to "Leave Nothing Undared," and this forms the foundation for life here at Mazenod. The word undared means not tried, so our motto here at school calls each person to never wonder 'What if?" Instead, it calls us to challenge ourselves with new opportunities everyday and continually strive to become a better person in all aspects of College life.

— Oliver Mangoni (College Captain)

The Year 12 Welcome Walk brought out the Guiding Principle, ‘Enter to Learn. Leave to Serve.’ Our senior students formed a welcome procession along Kernot Avenue as the new Year 7’s walked beneath the Enter to Learn sign and into the College for the first time, symbolising support, belonging and the beginning of their Mazenod experience. This tradition comes full circle later in the year when the Year 7’s return the gesture, farewelling the graduating class as they pass the Leave to Serve sign. Together, these moments reflect the complete Mazenod journey: boys entering as learners and leaving as young men shaped by faith, community, and service.

Year 7 students have also begun engaging in the Peer Support Program with their Year 11 mentor, whom they will see each week during our intensive Term 1 program in Friday Pastoral periods. They then took part in an orientation walk across the College. This experience not only allows our Year 7’s to benefit from the insight and guidance of current Mazenod students, but also gives our Year 11s the chance to demonstrate leadership, set aspirations and act as positive role models for our newest students.

Our Year 7 students are eagerly anticipating their upcoming camp in Anglesea, which will provide an excellent ice‑breaker experience, enabling them to strengthen new connections, build rapport, create cherished memories and select the student leader within their pastoral group.
