Science Week

It has been a busy and enjoyable National Science Week, with the boys getting involved in a range of activities during their Science lessons. One of the highlights was our annual Periodic Table Recital Competition. Boys challenged themselves to learn and recite as many elements as they could in the correct order, and it was great to see so many willing to have a go. Some very impressive results were recorded, and the winners for each year group will be announced at our upcoming Science Alive incursion, where prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place. 

This year’s theme, ‘Seeds of Science’, gave us the opportunity to recognise First Nations peoples as our first scientists and explore the deep knowledge and understanding of the natural world that has been developed and passed on through generations. Boys focused particularly on fire and cultural burning practices, and how we have learnt from First Nations peoples that fire is not always something destructive or devastating. When used carefully and with knowledge of Country, fire can benefit the environment by supporting new growth, reducing fuel loads and helping to maintain healthy ecosystems. It was a great way for the boys to see how this knowledge continues to influence the way we understand and care for our environment today. 

The boys then got their hands dirty planting everlasting seeds to take home and nurture. Hopefully, over the coming weeks, the Junior School boys will see plenty of successful sprouts and eventually some beautiful everlastings growing in special places at home. 

Throughout the week, we also shared a different National Science Week episode on Seesaw each day, exploring a range of interesting Science topics and giving students and families a few extra things to wonder about and investigate. 

Our final celebration is still to come, with our Science Alive incursion in Gibney Hall. Along with the Science Alive presentation, we will announce our Periodic Table Recital Competition winners and celebrate the boys’ efforts from throughout the week. 

Our gratitude is extended to Mrs Amanda Saraceni who has once again ensured that the Science Week activities are meaningful and engaging. It has been wonderful to see the boys getting involved, challenging themselves, asking questions and enjoying Science.

Recent Sports Achievements  

Congratulations to the boys involved in the Ian MacRae Cup and the School Sport Soccer Tournament last week. All boys participated enthusiastically, demonstrating excellent sportsmanship.  

The Ian MacRae Cup football match finished in a draw, whilst our soccer team qualified for the next round of fixtures, on Friday afternoon. Congratulations to all staff and boys involved. 

Celebrating the Angelico Art Exhibition

We are very proud to announce that the Year 6 Group Submission “Shades of Country” picked up 2x Awards at the Angelico Awards Night earlier this week – ‘The Packer’s Prize’ and the ‘Primary Group Submission’ Award! 

Well done to all these talented boys and to all the boys who proudly represent Trinity College with their creativity! Special thanks to Jack Nelson and Lachlan McKay for accepting the awards on behalf of the Year 6 group.  

Combined with our senior school students, Trinity received a wonderful total of 5 awards. The Angelico Art Exhibition, as part of the Catholic Arts Festival, is an impressive display of outstanding artworks from Catholic primary and secondary schools from all across the state of Western Australia. 

The exhibition is available until Friday 28 August for viewing during office hours at:

Forrest Centre, 221 St George's Terrace, Perth

An additional viewing has been organised for Saturday 22 August from 1.00 -3.00pm. At the completion of the exhibition a 3D Virtual Tour of the display will be available on the Catholic Arts Office website.

Lucas World Record Attempt

We are incredibly proud to celebrate the outstanding achievement of our Year 6 student, Lucas, who recently attempted to break the Guinness World Records title for the fastest time to recite all 118 elements of the Periodic Table in order.

After demonstrating incredible dedication and countless hours of practice, Lucas completed his attempt in approximately 27 seconds — an amazing performance that has put him in the running for the record!

While we cannot officially confirm that Lucas has broken the record until the attempt has been reviewed and verified by Guinness World Records, this is an incredible achievement in itself.

Morning Drop-Off

Mornings can be a whirlwind. Between finding missing shoes, locating that all-important lunch box, and making it to school before the bell, it's easy to feel like you're competing in an Olympic event! Afternoons can be just as busy, with everyone eager to get home after a long day. With this in mind, we'd like to remind all families that student safety remains our highest priority during these peak drop-off and pick-up times. 

To help keep our community safe and traffic flowing smoothly, we ask all families to observe the following: 

• Please adhere to the College speed limit of 10 km/h. It may feel slower than your morning coffee kicks in, but it helps keep everyone safe. 

• Drive carefully through the Main Driveway and the roundabout near the white canopy/umbrella. 

• Do not drop boys off between the roundabout and the Pavilion. This is dangerous and disrupts the flow of traffic. 

• Do not use staff parking bays for drop-off or pick-up. 

Thank you for your patience, cooperation, and shared commitment to keeping our students safe. By working together and following the signage and road rules, we can ensure that everyone arrives and departs safely, with far less stress and considerably fewer "Where are my keys?" Moments. 

Please also note that there is no teacher supervision after school at the white canopy/umbrella area. All Junior School students should wait in the designated Junior School area until they are collected.

TC Cafe Orders  

Commencing Monday 24 August, there will be an option to order recess for your son via the Flexischools app. A reminder to parents that our Café now offers the option to pre-order Afternoon Tea through the Flexischools app.  Afternoon Tea includes a muffin and a juice for $8.00 and will be delivered to the Junior School on the afternoon you select. Simply place your order via the Flexischools app before the relevant cut-off time to have Afternoon Tea delivered to your child. 

Upcoming Events - Save The Date

CPAF Performances  

Monday 24 August is a busy day for our Junior School with multiple groups performing in the Performing Arts Festival. The below groups will all be performing between 10.30 AM – 11.30 AM at the Vasto Club in Balcatta. If your son is performing, please ensure he arrives at school dressed in his formal uniform, packing any sports uniform that he requires later in the day. Groups Performing: Year 4 Choir, Year 5/6 Choir and Junior Vocal Ensemble.

Book Week Parade

The Book Week Parade, where students can dress as a character from a book or use the theme for inspiration, will be held on Tuesday 25 August at 8.30am in the Junior School Undercover Area. Students are welcome to remain in their costume for the duration of the day. 

Junior School Athletics Carnival  

Wednesday 26 August – Field Events & 800m. Please note that this will run as a regular class day. Students participating in field events will leave their class only for their scheduled event and will return to class immediately afterwards. 

Thursday 27 August 10.30am - 3.00pm Track Events.Parking has been arranged at Gloucester Park FROM 10.00am, Gate 7 (entry into the school via TC Gate 6). 

Father's Day Breakfast 

Junior School students and staff look forward to celebrating TC dads/father figures at the upcoming Junior School Father's Day Breakfast event, which will take place on Friday 4 September (Week 3.7). As is tradition, we ask students and dads to wear the colours of their favourite sporting teams on-the-day! This year, our celebration will also continue beyond breakfast and into the classroom, with a reading morning. Details are as followed:

Date: Friday, 4 September 

Time: 7.30am - 9.30am 

Venue: Gibney Hall (and JS classrooms) 

Other information:There is no requirement to register in advance for this event. However, due to capacity limits, we can only accommodate one guest per student. Parking has been arranged at Gloucester Park, Gate 7 (entry into the school via TC Gate 6).

Please note that the Science Alive incursion previously listed on the Term 3 Parent Planner for Monday 24 August, will now take place Friday 11 September for all students Years 4 – 6 in Gibney Hall at 8.30 AM.
