Years 7-9

Year 8 Humanities

Year 8s have been learning about Europe in the Middle Ages.  This week, they finished off their castle designs, and the products are exceptional!  Well done to these students for working together as a team, each contributing with their own strengths and showing patience and collaboration.

Year 9 Maths

The year 9 and 10 maths class undertook an exercise this week that proved that the area of a circle is equal to pi x r squared.

Students began with a circle, divided it into 16 equal sized wedges, then stuck them together to form a parallelogram/rectangle. They were then able to identify that the length of the rectangle was the same as half of the circumference, so pi x r and the width was r. When the area of the rectangle was calculated it became pi x radius squared.
