Mandarin News

It has been a busy and exciting term of learning in our Mandarin program! Students across Foundation to Year 6 have been developing their Mandarin vocabulary, communication skills and cultural understanding through engaging, hands-on learning experiences.

Foundation students have been exploring the topic of zoo animals. They have been learning to recognise and say the names of different animals in Mandarin while developing their listening and speaking skills through songs, games and interactive activities.

Year 1/2 students have been learning about pet and farm animals. They have been particularly excited to connect their learning with our school farm! Students have created their own Mandarin pocket books about our school farm, featuring animals such as alpacas, chickens and ducks. This project has given students the opportunity to practise their Mandarin vocabulary while creating something they can be proud.

Year 3/4 students have been learning about festivals and celebrations in Mandarin. They have been exploring vocabulary related to birthdays, Christmas, Chinese New Year and other celebrations. Students are now applying their learning to plan and write their own party invitations in Mandarin, using the language they have learned throughout the unit.

Year 5/6 students have been learning the topic 'In the Restaurant'. They have been learning useful vocabulary and phrases for ordering food and communicating in a restaurant. As part of their assessment, students are writing their own restaurant scripts and working with a partner to perform a restaurant role-play in Mandarin. This provides a wonderful opportunity for students to put their language skills into practice in a fun and authentic context.

It has been wonderful to see students building their confidence and enjoying the process of learning Mandarin. We look forward to continuing to develop their language skills and cultural understanding throughout the rest of the year!
