R U OK? Day

On Thursday 10th September, we celebrated R U OK? Day. This is an annual event which is all about inspiring and empowering everyone to meaningfully connect with the people around them and start a conversation with those in their world who may be struggling with life. Students wore a POP of yellow and participated in R U OK Day lessons and activities focused on:

  • the qualities of a good friend
  • learning to ask, ‘R U OK?’
  • identifying friends they can talk to if they aren’t ok
  • asking R U OK? in their own way and
  • identifying feelings on a continuum, to assess their ‘ok’ level.

Students also learned that you don't need to be an expert to reach out - just a good friend and a great listener. They were introduced to these four steps and the acronym, ALEC to have a conversation that could change a life:

  • Ask R U OK?
  • Listen
  • Encourage action
  • Check in

Thank you to our Wellbeing leaders, Samantha, Thalia and Osana for putting up posters to help advertise the event and for being great R U OK? Day ambassadors.
