District Basketball  - Friday September 11th

Congratulations to all the students who participated in the District Basketball Round Robin Day. Our girls team finished runners up  and the boys team was 5th overall.

On Friday 11th September the grade 6s and some grade 5s headed to Waverley Basketball Stadium for the Gardiner’s District Basketball tournament. The teams participated in 5 games each and had a great day. We are incredibly grateful to Sienna’s dad Geoff for coaching both the girls and boys teams and for giving up his day to do this. His guidance and leadership was very much appreciated. Oh.. and another rogue player ended up attending and practising her shots. Can you see who it is?

Girls

On Friday the 11th of September we had district basketball. All of the members of the basketball team met up in Ms Hancke’s classroom and we took the roll. Then once we made sure everyone was there we took all of the bags and then we went on the bus. After we got off of the bus we made our way to the stadium where we put all of our things down. The girls played first and we dominated 22-2 and I got 2 goals. After that we continued winning all of the games. We played 5 games and won 4 of them but the last game we lost 12-6. When we were there we saw lots of different schools and I made lots of new friends. It was so fun and I loved the experience. I am very upset that it was the last time I would do district basketball but I had such a fun time.

On Friday, I had district basketball. We played at Waverley Basketball Stadium. When we got there, my team had a game straight away at 9:45. We won 22-2, I scored six points. Our next game we won by more than 20 points but I forgot the score, I scored 8 points. Our last game, not including finals, we won by more than 15 points but I forgot the score again. In our last game, I shot a far shot that was worth two points but they counted it as a three! My team came first in our pool so we were in the semi finals. The team we played against in the semi final was my friend's team. They were my friends from my actual basketball team. We won by 5 or 6 points so we were into the grand final! In the grand final we were against Huntingtower, who had 4 or 5 rep players. We only lost by 6 points. All together the Holy Family girls team came second. It was a really fun day!

Boys

Last Friday the boys and girls basketball teams played in 4 competitive matches (or more if finals or placing) to decide what school was the best at basketball. The boys teams first game was a bit controversial but in the end it was a draw. The second game was very close but eventually the other team won. We needed to win our last two games by 15 points each to make finals. We won our next match by 18 points to prove if we made finals we would have gone further than the first match but unfortunately we lost our last game by 2. To finish of the day we had a placings match and smacked them 26-2 which cheered us all up.

On Friday September 11, both the girls basketball and boys basketball teams got to compete at a basketball tournament across nine schools. In the boys first game we had a close battle with the other team. We ended up winning in the 10-9, but the Avila referees called a boys mid-range a three, and we ended up getting tied with them. It was so annoying. The second game we just lost fair and square, and the third was a blowout, us destroying Syndal South. In the fourth game against Huntingtower, the refs called a timeout after Dayshan got fouled, and when we came back into play Huntingtower got the ball! In the end we ran back the last two minutes and we lost, even after Dayshan swished three free-throws in a row! For our last game it was the fifth place match and we dismantled Mount Waverley Heights by over twenty points!
