Specialist Classes

Japanese
Students will learn words for leisure activities in Japanese. Japanese sentence patterns with three parts will be used to describe the activity we like, such as “I like tennis.” We will utilize flashcards and slide shows to support our learning. Students will also interact with each other in communication games which help develop fluency in our Japanese learning focus.
Digital Technologies
This term, students across all year levels are diving into the world of coding, computer systems, and digital citizenship through hands-on activities, interactive puzzles on code.org, and unplugged problem-solving games.
Transferring Coding Skills: Students will apply their prior visual coding knowledge (from tools like Scratch) into code.org's environment, mastering sequence and event concepts.
Debugging Strategies: Students will develop systematic strategies to trace code line-by-line, predict program behavior, and fix bugs.
Loops & Conditionals: Students will use repeat, while, and until loops to make code efficient. They will also explore branching using if/else statements to make programs make decisions based on specific conditions.
Data & Online Safety: Students will discover how computers represent images using binary code. They will also learn essential cyber safety practices, including creating secure passwords and being positive upstanders online.
