Writing

As we conclude The Wild Robot, students will refine their persuasive letter writing skills on the topic of robots, using standard formal letter structure alongside technical vocabulary, persuasive connectives, and high-modality words to convince their reader. Alongside reading His Name Was Walter, students will explore narrative writing by planning detailed characters and settings for an engaging opening. They will then draft action paragraphs to build suspense, introduce a central conflict for their characters to overcome, detail the steps taken to solve the problem, and conclude with a satisfying resolution that reflects the characters' feelings. Students will expand their language skills by using descriptive adjectives to enrich scenes and adverbs to add details about time, place, and manner.
