Mathmatics

This term in Mathematics, we will be covering the following core topics:
- Statistics (Data Collection): Students will learn how to collect information using digital tools, display it in charts like column graphs or pictographs, and talk about what the results show.
- Probability / Chance: Students will learn how to describe everyday events involving chance, put outcomes in order from least to most likely, and tell the difference between events that affect each other.
- Equivalent Fractions: Students will learn to count and place fractions on a number line, find matching fractions that show the same amount, and see how fractions connect to decimals.
- Temperature: Students will learn how to measure and compare temperatures in degree celsius using standard scales and digital tools.
- Maps & Location: Students will learn how to use grid coordinates and directional words to read maps, follow pathways, and describe locations.
- 3D Shapes: Students will learn how to describe and compare flat shapes and 3D objects, and use them to build or represent real-world items around them.
- Mass & Capacity (Problem Solving): Students will learn how to use measuring tools to solve everyday problems by measuring and comparing the mass and capacity of different items.
- Decimals (Addition & Subtraction as well as Money): Students will learn how to add and subtract decimals to solve real-world money problems, like calculating total costs and figuring out change rounded to the nearest 5 cents.
In Week 3, Students will be completing the PATM testing, which is the online Maths Assessment.
Home learning tasks for Maths will be posted to Compass each week. These home learning tasks will assist students in consolidating their knowledge of mathematical concepts taught in the classroom.
