I hope that week 5 is going well for you all, and that this newsletter’s theme of community brings some inspiration on these wintery days.

Our Captains’ Leadership Experiences

Our Year 12 Leaders were recently asked to share their thoughts around their leadership experience at Mordialloc College. 

Zander (School Captain)

 How are you enjoying being School Captain?

Being School Captain has been a monumental opportunity for my growth as a person, and an extension of myself into the school community. Being able to organise events and engage in the inner school operations is fantastic, as I have acted as a voice for our students.

What have you learnt about Leadership?

I have learned that being a leader isn’t dominating conversation. What makes a good leader is not one that dominates conversation and does all the work themselves, but one that recognises where constituent member's strengths lie. Delegating jobs to other students to most effectively complete a task helps extend an entire community to greater heights.

What do you want to do after you graduate from high school? 

I would like to go to Monash University for undergraduate medicine. I have been passionate about this for as long as I can remember, and I realise that having immense community involvement is necessary to gather the communication skills necessary to make a good doctor. I would like to be a leader, and a voice of reason and insight.

How are you enjoying being School Captain? 

Being School Captain has been really interesting and such a rewarding experience! I’ve enjoyed having the opportunity to represent the students and help create a more positive and inclusive environment at Mordialloc. I have really liked working alongside the other leaders to give back to our school community.

What have you learnt about Leadership? 

I have learnt that leadership is about choosing when to speak up and when to listen. Through my role as School Captain, I have worked with other leaders, teachers and parents who all bring valuable and different ideas. I’ve learnt that supporting someone else’s idea, encouraging participation and helping other people feel heard makes a great leader.

What do you want to do after you graduate from high school? 

After I graduate high school, I am hoping to go to university and study fashion design. I’ve always been really interested in the fashion industry; and I would love to learn more about how everything works behind the scenes. I am excited to build my skills, get creative and explore the different jobs in that area to see what I like best!

 Ethan (Vice-School Captain)

How are you enjoying being School Captain? 

I am enjoying the opportunity to engage with the school community in a different but important way, making a positive impact on the school. As both Senior School Vice-Captain and promotions and fundraising captain, I have helped organise Hoodie Up Day at our school, as well as presented at assemblies and organised more fundraising activities.

What have you learnt about Leadership? 

An important lesson I learnt early into leadership is that being a leader doesn’t come with having a fancy title or badge. Rather, leadership is demonstrated through actions, such as helping your peers and others in the wider community. I would like to think that I am good at this already, but I know that there is plenty for me to improve upon in the future!

What do you want to do after you graduate from high school? 

After I graduate high school, I aim to complete a Bachelor of International Relations and Politics, Philosophy and Economics double degree at the Australian National University, with the goal of continuing onto graduate studies, before entering the field of public service as a diplomat for the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

 Ryan (Vice-School Captain)

How are you enjoying being School Captain? 

I am thoroughly enjoying the role! It makes me feel good that I am able to make a positive impact on our school and contribute to discussions surrounding the future of Mordialloc College.

What have you learnt about Leadership? 

I have learnt that leadership takes time and dedication, and that being a role model to younger year levels and others in my cohort is a task that follows you in and out of school. Ultimately leadership is about demonstrating your best self so other people have the opportunity to see how they too can become their best self.

What do you want to do after you graduate from high school? 

When I graduate, I would like to go to Monash University and complete a Bachelor of Science Degree with a Major in Zoology, through which I could work as a Zoologist, Wildlife ambulance, conservation scientist or specialise in research of a specific species. I have always loved animals and have had a deep desire to know more about their characteristics and contributions to the environments they live in. I wish to help animals in need and conserve our country’s extensive biodiversity.

Congratulations Pravel!

Pravel has been selected to represent Victoria in the Super 16s Rugby Union competition.

This is a fantastic achievement for Pravel and is the result of an enormous amount of hard work, dedication and commitment to rugby. He has worked extremely hard over the past few years to develop his skills, fitness and knowledge of the game, and we are very proud to see his efforts recognised with this opportunity to represent Victoria.

Pravel will be competing throughout September 

and October this year, providing him with an 

exciting opportunity to compete at a high level 

and represent both Victoria and his community.

Celebrating Connection With Families

Parent Opinion Survey 2026

All families will be contacted this week about the opportunity to complete the yearly Parent Opinion Survey. 

This year, we have had a real focus on improving the ways in which we work with you to support your child’s success, and these changes have provided even more opportunities for conversations, for connection, and for supporting you with your child’s academic success as they transition through Mordialloc College. 

Your opinions are important to us and contribute to celebrating what we are doing well and should continue to do, alongside identifying areas for improvement, and for professional development needs within the college. The Department uses the survey results for research purposes and to improve outcomes for students across the state.

The survey is conducted online and only takes 20 minutes to complete. It can be completed on any internet enabled device (desktop computer, laptop, tablet or smartphone) and is compatible with most browsers.

There are three key factors that are included in this year’s survey:

1. Community Engagement in Learning: Communication and School Improvement

In response to your feedback, Mordialloc College families now receive our new improved semester reports which include more details around Learning Tasks and a surmise of Progress Report information. Feedback from the School Council and our families at PDC has been overwhelmingly positive.

To promote parent-school relationships,  families have engaged with us in a parenting information evening with Michael Raydan, Course Preference Conversations, Music Showcases, Mamma Mia school production, Sub-School Transition presentations, Student Support Group Meetings, Year 7 New Parent Meetings, Music Showcases and SEP Taster Sessions; these opportunities were all alongside our normal routes of communication for everyday learning and wellbeing conversations. 

Our three sub-school model has gone from strength to strength, making it easier for students and families to remain connected with key members of our college. To further support students and families, we have linked wellbeing and educational support staff to each of the sub-schools, giving your child even more opportunity to effectively connect with key members of their sub-school.

2. Excellence in Teaching & Learning: Student Cognitive Engagement and Student Development

Our research based Mordialloc College Instructional Model puts us at the forefront of pedagogical delivery. 

Our students have shared positive feedback about how this strategic approach is positively impacting their learning, and in 2025 we achieved the highest VCE study score in the history of the college, alongside winning local awards for our Applied Learning students.

Our Year 7 and Year 9 NAPLAN results in both Literacy and Numeracy continue to be above State, and this solid foundation in Junior and Middle school has supported some great outcomes in Senior School with over 99% of our 2025 Year 12 students successfully transitioning into tertiary studies and apprenticeships. 

Families continue to engage positively with the Compass lesson plans, with you letting us know that this level of teacher planning helps you to feel better prepared to support your child’s learning. Our bespoke Mordialloc College Professional Learning programme will continue into 2026, with a sharp focus on improving Guided and Independent Practice within the classroom.

3 Positive Climate for Learning: Wellbeing

We rolled out our Triangle of Engagement model in 2026, the culmination of some great work from our Wellbeing Team who as a part of our Student Services team, support our tiered approach to interventions. This collaborative model ensures that the student is the focus of the partnership between home and the college and helps to ensure that our students feel supported both academically and emotionally, while also encouraging them to take increasing responsibility for their own growth and progress.

Our wide range of targeted interventions include breakfast clubs, lunchtime clubs, drop in sessions, and timetabled meetings with Allied Health professionals; we continue to have great success with delivering on our promise of making sure that no Mordialloc College student is left behind.

Reporting to Parents and Parent Teacher interviews

A reminder about our arrangements for our online Parent Teacher interviews for Years 7 - 12 to be held on Wednesday 31st August from 10.00 am - 6.30 pm. On site classes will not run on this day as students are expected to attend each of their online interviews. 

Students must attend their interview with a parent, or adult member of their family.

Each student will be set meaningful work for every lesson, and this must be completed throughout the school day; this work will be accessible through Compass, 

Bookings are currently open through Compass; please contact the general office if you have any issues or need assistance in making the bookings.
