WPS Assemblies

Over the last 2 weeks, I have had the pleasure of attending our school assemblies. As we are in Term 3, we have been 'splitting' our school into an F-2 assembly and a Years 3-6 assembly. It has been wonderful to see so many of our families attend these, as they are a wonderful celebration of learning and also an opportunity to update everyone on what is happening at Whittlesea Primary School.  Throughout both of these assemblies, I have been very impressed by the students who speak in front of their peers (and yes, there are lots of them). Speaking in front of large groups can sometimes be a little daunting, but with a little confidence, it can be done. Thank you to those students who take this 'public speaking' opportunity; we are very proud of you.

Whittlesea PS Alumni

Another former Whittlesea Primary School student has hit the big time in her chosen sport. Mia Webster, who completed Year 6 in 2017, has represented Australia in BMX Racing. Mia competed in the 2026 UCI BMX Racing World Championships in Brisbane, her debut for Australia.

Mia competed in the Under 23 elite women’s division; in her heat, she finished 6th and went into the second chance qualifier race. Sitting in a qualifying position, Mia had a mishap that forced her out of the race. Mia’s record is very impressive:

  • 6th place in Round 4 of the World Cup in the Netherlands (June 2026)
  • 3rd place in the Pro Women National Championship (April 2026)
  • 2nd place in the Under23 Women National Championships (2025 and 2026)

We have had some requests to investigate opening our canteen for an additional day, on a Monday.  This has now been discussed with School Council, who have agreed that this would be suitable to trial for Term 3 only (commencing next Monday, 10th August). Therefore, for the remainder of Term 3, the Canteen will now be open on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays for both lunch orders and over-the-counter sales. As said, this is just a trial, and we will be seeking feedback moving forward.

It's a Sign!

We have recently added some signs to our school. Our cubby house area, which we affectionately call our 'Cubby House Land', and our 'Student Voice' Noticeboard now have very clear signage to acknowledge these in our school yard.
