Year 2 Booran Reserve Excursion

The wind was whipping and Year 2 was on a mission! On Tuesday, our budding scientists set off from school to Booran Reserve, clipboards in hand, ready to hunt down forces hiding in plain sight around the playground. Slides, swings, spinners and towers all became science labs for the morning, as part of our current unit of inquiry. Here's what the young scientists discovered: 

At Booran Reserve, there were lots of forces at work. We investigated pushes, pulls, friction and gravity. Elianna (2A) 

It was interesting to see the different pushes and pulls. It was fun! My favourite part was the big slide. Charlie (2A)

I saw lots of forces at Booran Reserve. I am excited to build our very own playground at the end of this unit. Valentina (2A) 

It was really fun and we got to play. And there were a lot of forces that we could write down. When I went down the slide there wasn’t much friction and so I went fast. - Layla 2B

I liked going up the big tower and going down the big slide. I learned about friction because I got an electric shock. - Harry 2B

I liked going on the spinner because you had to push it very hard. - Leo 2C

I liked going on the roller runner because it was really fun when you ran fast and slid off. I was holding onto the side and it didn’t have that much friction. - Tessa 2C

From static shocks to speedy slides, it's safe to say forces made a big impression on our little scientists! A huge thank you to the parents who joined us for the morning.
