Learning, Feelings and 100 Days of Prep!
It has been a very exciting and special time in Prep as we continue to learn, grow and celebrate all that we have achieved together so far this year!
As part of our Unit of Inquiry, Who We Are, we have been exploring our emotions and thinking about how our feelings can influence the way we make choices, learn and interact with others. We have been learning to identify a range of emotions, recognise how feelings might look and feel in our bodies, and consider strategies we can use to help us manage big feelings.
We have also been discussing how everyone experiences emotions differently and how we can be kind, caring and supportive friends when others are experiencing different feelings.
Our learning last week was inspired by the wonderful story The Colour Monster. The story helped us to think about how our emotions can sometimes feel all mixed up and how we can begin to understand and organise our feelings. Students created their very own Colour Monsters and used their imaginations to think about the different emotions they might place inside their monster's jars. They then wrote about their Colour Monsters, sharing their ideas and using their developing knowledge of sounds, letters and words to communicate their thinking.
It has been wonderful to see students becoming more confident in talking about their feelings and expressing their ideas through drawing and writing.
100 days of Prep
We also celebrated a very special milestone in our Prep journey with our 100 Days of Prep Celebration on Tuesday 28th July! We began our day with a fantastic parade in the hall, where our students proudly showed off their amazing 100 Days of Prep dress-ups. We saw so many creative and wonderful costumes, and it was very special to have our families join us and share in the excitement.
Throughout the day, we participated in lots of fun and engaging activities, all connected to the number 100. We explored counting, number recognition and different ways of representing 100 through hands-on learning experiences and challenges. We also enjoyed special activities with our Year 5 buddies, giving us the opportunity to learn, play and celebrate together.
Our 100 Days of Prep celebration was such a wonderful day filled with excitement, laughter, creativity and lots of learning. It was a fantastic opportunity to stop and reflect on just how much our students have grown and developed since their very first day of Prep. From learning new sounds and words, to making new friends, becoming more independent and developing confidence as learners, there is so much to be proud of.
We are incredibly proud of each and every one of our Preps and all that they have achieved during their first 100 days of school. What a wonderful milestone to celebrate together!
As we look ahead to the rest of the year, we know there are still so many exciting learning experiences and special moments to come. We will continue to build on the skills and knowledge our students have developed so far, while encouraging them to become increasingly confident, independent and curious learners. We can't wait to see how much our Preps continue to grow, learn and shine as we make the most of the many adventures still ahead!
