SRC Backpack of Feelings

This term, our SRC representatives have been exploring the important value of forgiveness, following the results of our Resilient Youth Survey. The survey highlighted forgiveness as an area we could continue to strengthen across our school, providing an opportunity for students to reflect on how empathy, understanding and forgiveness can help build positive relationships and create a more inclusive school community.

As part of this work, our SRC students will be preparing a special assembly, which will be presented on Monday 24 August. Through a play The Backpack of Feelings, students will share a powerful message about the importance of forgiveness in our everyday lives. Over the coming weeks we will be rehearsing this play.

In The Backpack of Feelings, students use a backpack filled with labelled books to symbolise the emotional weight we can carry when we hold onto anger, sadness or hurt. As apologies are offered and forgiveness is shown, the backpack becomes lighter, reminding us that forgiveness can help us let go of those heavy feelings and move forward.

Through these performances, our SRC hopes to encourage students to reflect on the choices they make every day, the impact their words and actions have on others, and how forgiveness can help strengthen friendships and build a more caring, respectful and inclusive school community.
