Online safety and digital wellbeing

Supporting Safe and Respectful Digital Citizens

As part of our commitment to student wellbeing, Brighton Beach Primary School continues to partner with Inform and Empower to provide engaging, evidence-based learning experiences that support students to navigate the online world safely and confidently.

This week and in the coming weeks, students across the school will participate in their next Inform and Empower live-streamed incursion, with learning tailored to each year level. These sessions complement our whole-school wellbeing focus on Inclusion and build on the important work taking place through our Tier 1 wellbeing programs, Respectful Relationships and The Resilience Project.

Throughout Term 3, students will explore age-appropriate topics that promote safe, respectful and responsible online behaviour. Prep students will learn about navigating the online world safely and identifying trusted adults who can help them. Students in Years 1 and 2 will continue developing strategies for staying safe online, while Years 3 and 4 will focus on recognising and responding to cyberbullying, becoming active upstanders and understanding the importance of consent in online interactions. Years 5 and 6 students will also deepen their understanding of cyberbullying, respectful online relationships, consent and strategies for responding to challenging situations in positive and responsible ways.

At BBPS, we believe that developing positive digital citizens is a shared responsibility between school and home. Inform and Empower provides families with practical resources after each session to help continue these important conversations at home, ensuring students receive consistent messages about respectful relationships, online safety and digital wellbeing. Together, we can empower our children to make safe, respectful and informed choices both online and offline.
