Welcome back to Second semester!

It has been wonderful to see all our students again after the school holidays. We hope you have all had a restful break and are ready to jump back into learning, personal growth and challenging ourselves to achieve our very best! With the intention of encouraging students to step out and be the wonderful school leaders they are, this semester, all grade six students will be given an opportunity to run an assembly. Students have been allocated a week to be prepared to be our schools spokespeople. Please ask your child when they are running assembly if you'd like to see them in this role for Bunyip Primary School.

NADOC week

On Thursday the 16th of July, students engaged in an alternative program for NADOC week. Students did 4 sessions with different teachers where they engaged in various hands on and interactive learning about indigenous cultures of Australia.

English

This semester, we are refocusing on the tools of writing and are reviewing all the components of a written piece that students need to master in order to have cohesive and dynamic writing. Students have assessed their writing against provided criteria and they have chosen writing goals based on their assessment and outcomes. Teachers started the unit by elaborating on punctuation and sentence structure, providing quality examples for students to review and compare. Ask your child if they can explain the difference between a compound and complex sentence!

Mathematics

Building on our learning with decimals at the end of last semester, this semester we have started with looking at percentages and ratios, as a tool for comparison. We have looked at the population of Australia throughout history and compared the colonies population as a before and after Federation. We have learnt how to find equivalent ratios and find a percentage to make a comparison. We also have learnt how to find a percentage increase and decrease.

Humanities - History

Last year, our students learnt about pre federation Australia and the goldrush. This year we are learning about the creation of our Nation and the factors that brought the colonies together as a Nation in 1901.

Auslan

Students are very excited as they work in small teams to present an AUSLAN interpretation of a short story. We have been preparing our knowledge of AUSLAN in conjunction with the selected story to present the reading of the story with the AUSLAN interpretation alongside. These will be presented to the 3/4 classes in a few weeks' time.

Technology

This fortnight students have been finishing off their Unit on user interfaces ready to talk about device design starting next week!

Student in Charge

This semester, all students will be given an opportunity to teach their peers something they are skilled in or have a strong understanding of. When it is your child's turn, they may request to bring certain items/tools/equipment to school. We appreciate the support from our families to allow exceptional mini lessons on exciting tops, such as music, craft, and sport.
