Mrs Christine Larsen, Curriculum Leader - Arts

Year 11 Visual Art

In Week 2, Year 11 General Visual Art students embarked on a full-day excursion across Brisbane, exploring locations including Shorncliffe foreshore, Boondall Wetlands, Nudgee Cemetery, the Brisbane Telecommunications Museum, the State Library’s Brisbane Portrait Prize, GOMA’s Jim Henson: Make, believe, magic exhibition and the Mount Coot-tha Botanic Gardens. This immersive experience encouraged students to explore diverse environments and gather inspiration in order to develop a specific concept for their upcoming internal assessments.

Year 11 Certificate III in Visual Arts

As part of their current unit of work, Year 11 Certificate students have been developing skills in screenprinting. They have started with simple hand-cut stencils, used for printing colourful text onto calico bags, before progressing to learning how to create photographic screenprints. This technique will be used to develop a T-shirt, onto which their own individual, unique design will be printed.

Celebrating Our Graduating Arts Students

Week 3 saw our Graduate Arts Evening bring together Year 12 students, families and friends to celebrate the achievements of our graduating Visual Art, Drama and Film, Television and New Media students. The evening showcased the creativity and dedication of our students through a visual art exhibition, drama performances and film screenings on the big screen in the Draney Theatre. It was a wonderful celebration of the talent, passion and hard work that make the Arts such a vibrant part of our College community.

Congratulations to Year 12 student Daniel Wuol, who has received an early-entry offer to the Bachelor of Acting at the Griffith Conservatorium following an audition and interview. Daniel has also auditioned for the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) and been shortlisted for both its Diploma and degree programs. This is an outstanding achievement, and we wish Daniel every success as he pursues his passion for acting and the creative arts.
