Curriculum Matters
Foundation
Our Foundation students have been exploring teen numbers and developing their understanding of place value.
Through a variety of hands-on activities, they discovered that teen numbers are made up of one group of ten and some additional ones. Using ten frames, tally marks, counting collections, pictures and number lines, students represented the same number in different ways.
These experiences helped strengthen their understanding that numbers can be represented in multiple forms while reinforcing the concept of place value.
Level 1
Our Level 1 students have had a busy and exciting start to the term!
In Literacy, students have been exploring information reports by learning about one of Australia's most loved animals—the koala. They have been researching facts, identifying the features of information reports, and writing their own information reports. Students have enjoyed discovering where koalas live, what they eat, and how they survive in their natural habitat while developing their writing skills.
In Numeracy, we have been building our understanding of money by learning how to add different amounts together. Students have been practising counting collections of coins, combining amounts, and using a range of hands-on activities to develop confidence when working with money.
We have also begun our new Inquiry unit, "From My Home to the World." Throughout this unit, students are exploring the places that are important to them and learning about their connections to home, school, and the wider community. We are beginning by identifying special places in our lives and discussing why these places are meaningful to us.
This learning helps students develop a sense of belonging while building their understanding of the world around them.
Level 2
This week, our students are exploring how to tell time, from o’clock to quarter past, half past, and quarter to! They’re not just learning from clocks - they’re building their own using craft materials.

Level 3
Level 3 students have made an excellent start back to Term 3, with lots to look forward to in the coming weeks !
In Maths, students have spent time exploring a range of strategies to solve multiplication problems. They have been building their understanding of multiplication through hands-on activities, such as using arrays to represent equal groups or repeated addition. One of the class favourites was a competition where students used arrays to claim the largest section of a paddock.
During SEL, students reflected on their resilience goals they set in Term 2 and celebrated the progress they have made. They discussed the challenges they have overcome, the strategies that helped them persevere, and the importance of learning from mistakes. They spent time discussing and setting new goals for themselves also.
Level 4
Level 4 students have had an exciting and productive start to Term 3, with lots of engaging learning taking place over the past two weeks.
In Literacy, students researched an Australian animal and used their findings to write an information report. Throughout their research, students discovered many interesting facts about Australia's wildlife and enjoyed learning more about the diet, habitats and features of different animals.
In Maths, students have been learning about composite shapes, area and perimeter. They identified composite shapes in their environment, created their own designs, and explored different ways to work out the perimeter of their shapes.
Level 5
Level 5 students are investigating how habitats provide the conditions that plants and animals need to survive.
They are also exploring the impact that both natural and human activity can have on the growth and survival of living things.
To bring our learning to life, students participated in a LEGO Habitat Challenge, whereby they worked collaboratively to design and build a habitat for a chosen animal and how changes to the habitat might affect its survival.
This leads into our upcoming Werribee Open Range Zoo excursion, where students will observe a variety of animal habitats firsthand and deepen their understanding of animal adaptations and the importance of protecting natural environments.
Level 6
Level 6 students have had a wonderful start to Term 3 by delving into poetry in Literacy.
So far, students have explored a range of fixed-form poems, including acrostic poems, limericks and cinquains, each with its own specific structure. Through these poetry forms, students are developing their creativity while learning how structure and carefully chosen language can enhance their writing.
As part of our Inquiry unit on Australia, students have created poems that celebrate what makes Australia unique, including its important events, iconic landmarks, sporting culture, diverse landscapes and native animals.
