John XXIII Rowing Club

Dear Rowing Families
Our boys’ squad faced the weather head on at last weekend’s All Schools Regatta #2. Unfortunately, the Year 8 races and the small boat races for the Year 9s were cancelled due to the poor conditions. This didn’t deter our Year 9s from all coming out just for their quad scull race, thank you to all parents and rowers for making the effort to still come and race!
Our girls squad had a light week after the Head of the River but were back onto the water this week.
There is holiday training on offer, and information is on the STACK App regarding days and times, please complete the form to let us know you are coming to allow us to have adequate coaches at each training session. Rowing will commence again on Monday, 20 July, even though school isn’t back yet. Buses have been booked and we look forward to seeing both boys’ and girls’ squads get back into it for the final three weeks of the season.
There are only three regattas left in the season would you believe! The Mettam's long-distance regatta at Canning Bridge is on this Sunday, if you have registered to row, you would have received an email with the details of this regatta from Claire Woolfitt.
The Year 8s unfortunately missed out on racing in the second All Schools Regatta due to the poor conditions, however, all the coaches were impressed with how far they had come during their nine weeks of rowing. We hope to see you at the House Regatta on Saturday 29 August, details will be posted in Notices and sent out closer to the date with further details.
John XXIII College Rowing Club had the great pleasure of christening three new double sculls last week, and we thank the College and the Rowing Committee and parents for their fundraising efforts. The three new boats, Seek Justice, Mary Gonzaga Barry and Djarlogarro Beelier, have had their first rows and were used on the weekend at the regatta. New boats are special and it reminds all of us how lucky we are to have new equipment in the shed. We thank Fr Garner for presiding over our Ceremony and Mary-Anne Lumley for her contribution, ensuring the event went smoothly.

2026 Year 8 Learn to Row
Unfortunately, the conditions were too poor for the Year 8s to race their quads at the All Schools Regatta. We have been very impressed with how far the rowers have come over the nine weeks and their willingness to jump into small boats which are quite tippy. Year 8s get one more chance to race though, at the John XXIII House Regatta on Saturday, 29 August at Canning Bridge. A signup sheet will be sent to the Stack App and via email to all signed up Year 8s. It’s a great day to come down and see our rowing shed and meet some other parents and the students have a great time racing with their House.
Uniforms
The new zootsuit is now in stock at the Uniform Shop. There is also a training top that can be worn under the zootsuit, and a ¼-zip fleece. The only compulsory item is the Zootsuit for racing at regattas. There is a stock of the old zootsuits that can be worn for training.
Stack Team App
This App is one of our main avenues for communication with rowers and their parents. Please download the ‘Stack Team App’ on your phone, as this is the central place for training schedules, training updates, access to the rowing handbook, to name a few. To get this app please go to the App Store or Google Play and download the Stack Team App onto your mobile device, then follow these simple steps:
- Sign-up to Stack Team App. You’ll be sent an email to confirm your registration.
