What’s Happening in Term 1?
Our Year 10 students have had a visit from Guilford Young College staff and students (past students of Mount Carmel) to discuss GYC as an option for Year 11 and 12. The visiting group was friendly and informative, providing details of the subjects available, the GYC Open Days and subject counselling sessions as well as day-to-day activities at GYC.
In class, Year 10 students have been exploring options for transition at the end of Year 10.
After Year 10, a young person can choose any of the following education and training options, or a combination of these options if the provider/s allow:
Years 11 and 12 at any government or non-government school or college, or tertiary provider – this may include an Australian School-based Apprenticeship
a Vocational Education and Training (VET) qualification through any registered training organisation
an apprenticeship or traineeship with an employer.
The year 10 students first assessment item is an Electronic Portfolio.
Meanwhile, our Year 9 students have been undertaking tasks to explore their skills, interest and values and have been working on their first assessment task which is to create a Career Action Plan.
Several businesses and community groups have reached out to Mount Carmel in order to seek students for part-time employment. These opportunities have been presented via the Daily News and will continue to be in the future.
