A big week of celebrations in Indonesia

Thursday 19th March marks the end of the month of Ramadan, 30 days of fasting during daylight hours. In Indonesia people return to their hometowns, called mudik, where up to 80% of the country is on the move....that's over 200 million people! This time is called Lebaran and involves sharing time with family.

Selamat Hari Raya. Maaf lahir dan batin.

And on the island of Bali the celebrations of the Balinese New Year are in full swing. From the noisy night of the ogoh-ogoh parade to the day of silence, Nyepi, where no one is on the streets, or working- a day of quiet reflection to bring in the New year.
