Writers Group

Last Tuesday saw the Oberon Writers’ Group in action once again, this time on a field trip to the Geelong Botanic Gardens. The drizzling clouds seemed to part when we arrived and the garden’s floral displays looked splendid in all of their Autumn glory! Students quickly fanned out to find the perfect tree to act as inspiration for their writing piece; with many of the trees in the gardens over a hundred years old, it wasn’t hard to find a gnarled old trunk with a few stories to tell. Some students chose to write from the perspective of their tree in a violent storm while others wrote about three separate events that had taken place beneath their tree over a hundred years. The only down-side to the day were the garden’s resident mosquitoes who, by the end of the day, were rather well fed. Thanks to Ms O'Callaghan for joining us on this trip. Students who would like to be a part of Writers’ Group are welcome to attend our fortnightly meetings during Friday lunchtimes in D13.
