Principal's Report

There is a place for everyone at Beaumaris — and at Beaumaris, everyone can find their place in the world.
We were delighted to receive more wonderful feedback from one of the mentors in the Year 11 VCE VM Community Connections program:
What a pleasant couple of hours we enjoyed on Tuesday with your students. The school's great, the atmosphere looks so conducive to learning and the food was terrific. Loved the scones. You've all done a great job for your students.
Class of 2026
It has been a significant couple of weeks for our Class of 2026, culminating in their Farewell Assembly on Friday 16 October and Graduation at the MCG on Friday 23 October. Both occasions provided an opportunity to reflect on the students' journey through secondary school, celebrate their achievements and acknowledge the friendships and connections they have formed along the way.
I was particularly proud of the way our College Captains, Imogen and Judah, reflected on their time at Beaumaris during the Farewell Assembly. In my address, I encouraged students to show up, stay connected and practise self-leadership, reminding them that their worth extends far beyond academic results and that they will always belong to the Beaumaris community. My full address can be read here.
At Graduation, I had the opportunity to share some further reflections and messages with our Class of 2026 and their families. Read my full Graduation address here:
Special congratulations to Chloe Chao, Imogen Lonnie, Jensen Wattam, Katie Gorvett-Page, Lauren Smith, Kaelan Balpe-Leahy, Phoebe Meure, William Panozzo and Aimee Crouch, who were each awarded a $3,000 graduate scholarship through the generous support of the Beaumaris Secondary College Foundation, established by Bridget Hsu-Hage.
My thanks to the Yearbook Committee - Mr de Valle, Ariel Judah, Bella Hoad, Haeley Heng, Olivia Voyce, Phoebe Meure, Willow MacArthur and Zoe Fennel - for producing such a wonderful record of the Class of 2026's time at Beaumaris.
With VCE examinations now underway, I encourage our Year 12 students, along with our Year 11 students completing Unit 3-4 subjects, to remain focused, look after their wellbeing and approach their exams with confidence.
To the Class of 2026, thank you for the contribution you have made to our college. We are proud of you and look forward to seeing what the future holds.
Applied Learning Awards
Congratulations to Year 12 students Harvey Kenny, Georgia Conson-Collins and Campbell Thomson, who were recognised as nominees at the 2026 BGKLLEN Applied Learning Awards. Harvey was nominated for Future Vocational Pathways Student of the Year, Georgia for VET Student of the Year and Campbell for Workplace Learning Student of the Year.
I am proud to see their hard work and commitment recognised. Their achievements highlight the value of applied learning in helping students develop practical skills, build confidence and pursue their future pathways.
Thank you to our VM, VET & SWL Coordinator, Karlie Arnold, for supporting our students and joining them to celebrate their achievements on the evening.
Year 7 2027 Information Evening
It was a pleasure to welcome our incoming Year 7 families to the college on Thursday 15 October for our 2027 Information Evening. Starting secondary school is an important milestone, and the evening provided an opportunity to share what students and families can expect as they begin this next chapter of their education.
My thanks to Deb Kirk for coordinating the evening and to our students who contributed through presentations and musical performances. We look forward to continuing to support our new families through the transition process and welcoming our Year 7 cohort for Orientation Day on 8 December.
State Athletics Championships
It was pleasing to see two of our students represent the college at the State Athletics Championships. Year 12 student Amelie Dixon achieved a bronze medal in the Girls 17 400m and placed fourth in the 200m, while Year 11 student Yianni Seretis finished seventh in the Boys 17 1500m, recording a personal best.
Reaching the state championships is a significant achievement and reflects the dedication and commitment both students have shown to their sport. I congratulate Amelie and Yianni on their performances and the way they have represented our college.
Basketball Success
It has been wonderful to see our basketball talent continuing to flourish, with five students recently selected for state and national development programs. Congratulations to Julian King (Year 7), Nicola Hordejuk (Year 8), Harrison King (Year 9) and Amelie Dixon (Year 12) on their selection for the State Development Program, and Henry Darker (Year 11) on his selection for the National Performance Program. These achievements are a fantastic recognition of their dedication and commitment to the sport, and an exciting reflection of the basketball talent within our college community as we continue to grow our Basketball Academy.
BSC Annual Ladies' Lunch
Our annual Ladies’ Lunch was held on Saturday 17 October at Mentone Life Saving Club, bringing together parents and friends of the college for a wonderful afternoon of connection and community. Thank you to BSC parent and guest speaker Kerryn Kohl for her engaging presentation on navigating the age of AI.
I would like to extend my sincere thanks to Nel and our parent volunteers for their hard work in organising such a successful event, and to the many businesses that generously donated prizes. Events like these play an important role in bringing our college community together, and I thank everyone who attended and contributed to its success.
2027 College Captain Candidate Speeches
At Monday’s whole-school assembly, our 2027 College Captain candidates delivered their leadership speeches, sharing their aspirations for the college and the contribution they hope to make to our school community. It was encouraging to see students putting themselves forward for these important leadership roles and demonstrating the confidence and commitment required to represent their peers.
I congratulate all candidates on their willingness to step forward and look forward to announcing our 2027 College Captains.
Bayside Primary School Upstanders Celebration
Last week, we were delighted to host the Bayside Primary School Upstanders Celebration, welcoming students, staff and families from Beaumaris Primary School, Brighton Beach Primary School, Hampton Primary School and Sandringham Primary School. The event brought together up to 100 students, along with their teachers and families, for a wonderful celebration.
Events such as this highlight the importance of our connections with local primary schools and the wider Bayside community. We are proud to provide opportunities for our neighbouring schools to come together, celebrate student achievements and strengthen the relationships that make our local community so special.
World Teachers' Day
Tomorrow we celebrate World Teachers’ Day, an important opportunity to recognise the vital role teachers play in shaping the lives and futures of young people. I am incredibly proud of the professionalism, commitment and care demonstrated by our teaching staff, who work tirelessly to create a positive and engaging learning environment. I extend my sincere thanks to all our teachers for the significant contribution they make to our students and the wider college community.
Looking Ahead
Tomorrow evening, we look forward to welcoming families and friends to our Twilight Concert and VCE Theatre Studies Showcase. The evening will feature live music from our talented students, followed by VCE Theatre Studies performances. This is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the creativity and hard work of our Music and Theatre Studies students. I encourage families to come along and enjoy what promises to be a fantastic evening.
