Infants Athletics Carnival

What a fantastic day we had at the Calrossy Infants Athletics Carnival! Our littlest athletes gave it their all, showing incredible spirit, determination, and most importantly, having loads of FUN!

It was wonderful to see each child participating, trying their best, and celebrating each other.

At Calrossy, we believe in fostering a love for sports and the importance of participation. Days like these remind us that every effort counts and that the journey is just as important as the finish line. Well done to all our budding athletes.

HRIS U15 Girls Football

Another great result from the Calrossy U15s Girls Football team at the HRIS Football Gala Day. The girls only lost one match with 8 goals scored across 5 games, conceding only 2.

They started the day well with a 3-0 win over Scone Grammar, with Lucy Mahony getting things started by scoring the first goal before Jasmine Harris banged in 2 more before half-time. The girls then defended well to keep a clean sheet in the second half.

Game two saw Calrossy come up against the defending champions, St Phillips Christian College - Newcastle. It was a gritty game that saw the girls pushed to their defensive limit, but they managed to hold them off to finish with a 0-0 draw despite several great attempts from the Calrossy team.

Game three saw our only loss for the day, with a defensive lapse giving St Columba an opportunity that even the mighty Jemma Carr in goals just couldn’t keep out.

Despite the hard-fought efforts of the girls, we narrowly missed a spot in the Top 8 and went on to play 2 final games against other Bottom 8 teams. A Jasmine Harris dribble through 3 players to assist Maggie Brown, who put one away against Hunter Valley Grammar School, gave the girls the start they needed. Jasmine Harris scored another goal, assisted by Tillie McCumstie, and a calm and collected Georgia Dowe slotted in a third. HVGS did sneak in one goal before full-time, but the girls continued their march.

The final game of the day against Bishop Tyrell Anglican saw Jemma Carr make several crucial saves to pick up another clean sheet in a 2-0 win to finish off the day. The final goals were picked up by Jasmine Harris and Sophie Donoghue, although it could have been more, with both Katie Coss and Jaime Grobler looking dangerous all game.

Congrats to the girls who finished in 9th place.

2025 New Zealand Rugby and Netball Tour

The 2025 New Zealand Rugby and Netball Tour will take place in 2025. The proposed dates are Saturday June 28th to Wednesday 9th July 2025.

The Tour teams will be made up of students 15 and 16 years of age in the 2025 calendar year.

The 2025 Tour will see students travel to Sydney, then fly out to Christchurch, and travel North to finish in Wellington. Students will play three matches against New Zealand opposition, as well as see the sights and experience authentic New Zealand Culture. Students will receive a playing jersey, bag and jacket as part of their trip.

Basketball Grand Finals

Our Year 12 boys’ basketball team, affectionately known as the Pelicans, played their last game for the school last Tuesday, going down in a close semi-final match of the A-Grade 11/12 boys’ competition. There were some great moments in the game, typical of the team over many years. Bryn Heywood’s trademark defence and hustle kept the game tight, while Max Thompson made clutch baskets to keep the scores close. Wilson O’Rourke made his presence known on the defensive end with tough, physical play that eventually saw him foul out late in the game. Dom Fawcett played a key role in defence and formed a strong link in offence, rotating the ball to reset the offensive sets. The team lacked the regular contributions from Harry Russ, and as the game seemed to be slipping away, Year 10 student Charlie Pickens made his trademark 3-pointers to bring things back within a basketball. The opposition responded with some quick baskets to again slip away. Even with the ever-reliable basketball Captain, Harrison Barton, bulldozing his way through the opposition and making plays at both ends, it wasn’t enough to create a fairytale finish.

While the loss was disappointing, the little moments made it special. Long-time former teammates Tom Aitken and Declan Lewis sat with their mates to provide quiet encouragement and stood beside them in defeat.

It’s been a great privilege for the school to have these young men compete in and represent us in basketball so capably for so many years. We thank them for their efforts and wish them well in basketball beyond Calrossy.
