Library Report

Maryanne Gustus

Here we are at the end of another uplifting year in the Monivae College Library.  Term 4 has passed in a blaze of busy-ness and seems to have happened in the blink of an eye.

Our final Uniting Church Lunch took place on November 19th, once again so ably led by Mr Leo McMahon.  Four wonderful Year 9 young women volunteered, the team prepared the meal from scratch before transporting it down to the Church to serve, socialize and clean up.  Thankyou for your terrific efforts everyone.

With our annual Giving Tree in the Library the community is making wonderful progress in donating gifts of all sorts for children in Hamilton and surrounds. These will be distributed by our local St Vincent de Paul society.

We must never lose sight of the daily needs of others around us. The Giving Tree is a beautiful way for us to share all that we are blessed to have.

I noticed one of our Year 8 students, Sophie Dixon, placing some homemade items under our tree last week.  These are beautifully made scarves and beanies.  I asked Sophie about these lovely pieces and this is what I discovered.  Sophie has her own small business called The Yarn Basket. Sophie uses 100% pure wool, 25% of all profit is donated to charity, the scarves and beanies are ‘ultra-breathable’.

Sophie is one of our Library regulars and her intention in this endeavour leaves much to be admired. Well done Sophie, you are a true inspiration to us all.

It was a pleasure to welcome some very special visitors to the Library last week, people who work tirelessly and happily mostly behind the scenes as Ancillary/Administration staff.

To have these three wonderful women all here at the same time was the perfect time for a photo opportunity.  Thankyou Amy, Stacey and Meg for all that you give to your work, and our community here at Monivae College.

As we approach this beautiful time of Christmas with the lead up of Advent, always know that the best present is your presence. You are the gift.
