Sports Captain - Campbell Glazebrook
I've been here at Monivae since Year 7 in 2020, and despite the initial COVID-induced disruptions, my time at Monivae has been an incredibly formative experience. I currently play cricket, football and tennis. I am heavily involved in the Sports Academy and have represented Monivae in Cricket, tennis and Swimming through to Regional level. As Sports Captain, I hope to make the area of sports an encouraging, fun environment that caters to all students. Next year itself promises to be an exciting new year with the new houses, each of whom will compete in the Basketball Competition on Sacred Heart Day - hopefully this can be an exciting and enjoyable day for all. In addition, it will be rewarding to watch Monivae's sporting talent compete at higher levels, getting an opportunity to showcase their skill against new opposition.
SUPER 8/s Yr 7/8 Cricket
GIRLS
The Year 7/8 girls travelled to Pedrina park to take on the other schools in the annual Super 8’s competition.
They played 5 games and won all but the game against Good Shepherd College who were too powerful for our girls.
The Monivae girls had previously played very little cricket, and were a 50/5o make up of Year 7’s and 8’s so they did a sensational job to do as well as they did.
The girls need to be congratulated, not only for how they played, but also for their excellent behaviour.
A special mention to Bridget Sherlock who made sure I was organised all day.

BOYS
On the 14th of November, eight Year 8 boys participated in the Super 8s cricket competition, an exciting and fast-paced day that showcased their cricketing talents and teamwork. The boys played five matches throughout the day, delivering excellent performances in every game. Their efforts culminated in an undefeated streak and a first-place finish overall, a testament to their skill and determination.
The day began with a strong start as the boys took on Baimbridge in their first match. They secured a comfortable victory with a score of 79 to 26, setting the tone for what would be a successful day. In the second game against Bayview, the team’s batting lineup excelled, scoring an impressive 153 runs while the bowlers restricted the opposition to just 38. The momentum carried into the third match, where the boys faced Good Shepherd and achieved a convincing win, holding their opponents to a modest 11 runs while scoring 140 themselves.
The fourth game against Portland showcased another outstanding team effort, resulting in a commanding win of 149 to 44. Their batting was once again on full display, and the bowlers ensured the opposition found it challenging to keep up. The final match of the day, against Casterton, was particularly noteworthy. The team set a tournament-high score of 194 runs, while the bowlers held their opponents to 26. This last victory solidified their position as champions of the competition.
Throughout the day, there were many memorable moments that highlighted both individual brilliance and collective effort. One of the most exciting achievements was a bowler taking a sensational hat-trick, a rare and remarkable feat that energized the team. Additionally, one batter produced a phenomenal innings, scoring 75 runs off just 11 balls. This incredible performance was made possible by the Super 8s format, which awards double runs for shots hit past the bowler, adding an extra layer of excitement to the game.
Overall, the Year 8 boys’ cricket team displayed exceptional skill, teamwork, and sportsmanship throughout the competition. Their unbeaten record and consistent excellence in both batting and bowling were key to their success. Every player contributed to the day’s achievements, making it a proud and memorable occasion for the team. Congratulations to the boys on their outstanding performance and well-deserved first-place finish!

Grand Finalists
Archie, Jenson, Ella, and Mitchell made it to their respective categories' grand finals. Despite their best efforts and some close matches, they couldn’t quite clinch the win. However, their performance was commendable, and they should be proud of their achievements.
The competition was a great success, and our students represented our school with pride and determination. Congratulations to all participants for their hard work and sportsmanship. Let’s continue to support and encourage our athletes as they strive for excellence in future competitions.

Greater Western Region BASKETBALL Yr 7 & 8
Year 7 Girls
Our first game of the day was against Mercy Regional college. We started well leading the first half but unfortunately couldn’t get over the line going down by four. Second game we came up against Horsham College winning by 8 points. Unfortunately, we just missed out on the grand final but were able to play off for third place. We then took to the court to play Brauer College coming home with the win which meant we finished 3rd overall. Thanks to Holly for coaching and Miss Bester for scoring.

Year 8 Girls
The year 8 girls had a very successful day on and off the court. After a slow start in the first game the girls railed together and were able to came home with the win against Mercy Regional College. With little recovery time the girls were back on the court to come up against Horsham College, despite the back to back game the girls showed great determination and teamwork to get the win. After finishing top of the pool, the girls were off to the grand final against a tough Ballarat high team. After a game of ups and downs the girls went down by just a goal. Finishing 2nd overall is a great effort that all the girls should be proud of their efforts throughout the day.

Year 7 Boys
The boys started strong against Timboon for their first game getting the win and gaining some confidence. We then come up against a strong Emmanual side straight away unfortunately going down by just a couple goals. With one win and one loss we finished second in our pool, this then qualified us to play off for third place against Ballarat High School. With a strong start the boys were able to gain a 10-point lead, but Ballarat wasn’t going away. After a back and forth lead change we were able to finish winners. We finished 3rd overall for the day and would like to thank Mr Ough for coaching.

Year 8 Boys
The boys had a slow start to the day unfortunately going down in the first game to Ballarat High School. We then had to get back on court straight away for our second game against Emmanual. The boys started off strong in the first half matching Emmanual at both ends of the court.. Sadly, the boys lacked confidence and some energy in the second half, and we went down. Overall, we had a great day, thanks to Ms Byron and the teachers for organizing the day.
