Our Acacia 3 year old group love a challenge!
The children had been exploring the linking construction set with several of them making chains and holding them up. This sparked a conversation about length and measurement and how we could see whose chain was the longest or the shortest.
This amazing group of children have quickly become a collaborative team, helping each other when needed, offering support and encouragement and working together to solve problems.
It was awesome to see them working so hard to make the longest chain of links that they could and taking over the whole room! This project was not only an exercise in co-operation and construction, it was maths! Measuring, comparing, counting, estimating...all maths concepts they explored through play.
Mathematical Development: It introduced early, hands-on math concepts such as counting, ordering, and comparing size and length
Scientific Reasoning: It encouraged prediction and estimation, which are crucial for scientific thinking.
Vocabulary Building: It helped the children learn and use comparative language like shorter, longer, wider, and narrower.
Physical Understanding: It helped the children grasp concepts of space, volume, and distance.
Practical Life Skills: It also taught them how to measure elements, compare the size of objects, or see how much space something takes up.
