What's been happening this week?

Whitehorse children’s advisory group report

This term Ben E and Ben M from Year 5 & 6 were selected to represent our school at Whitehorse Council meetings this year. They were selected based on their interest, enthusiasm and creative thinking skills.

This week they had their first meeting at Box Hill Town Hall. Here are their reflections on the first meeting.

Tracey: What was the highlight of the meeting?

Ben M: Probably the tables full of snacks or the council chambers. It looked like a court room, and I took a photo with the mayor!

Ben E: My highlight was the beach ball tap and the Town Hall entrance. From the outside, the building looks like the White House!

Tracey: What did you learn when you were interviewing Mayor Kirsten Langford?

Ben M: I learned that the building was made in 1927 and the gown is kept at the other office

Ben E: I learned that Mayor Kirsten performs citizenship ceremonies, and she wears an amber necklace and matching earrings.

Tracey: Can you list 3 responsibilities of the Local Council?

Ben M: They were in control of the small roads and vaccines and kindergarten.

Ben E: The Council also controls business permits, playgrounds, and trees.

Tracey: When you were considering park planning, what were your ideas?

Ben M: My ideas were to replace the useless pavement with trees and make a small walking track around the park.

Ben E: My ideas were to create a nature play space in the playground, and to add basketball hoops to the multi-purpose court.

Thanks so much to Ben E and Ben M!

You did a wonderful job representing Box Hill North PS!

GRADE 4 GALA DAY!

Last week, our Year 4 students, along with a number of Year 3 students, took part in Gala Day. They proudly represented BHNPS in Newcombe and Cricket Blast. It was a fantastic day filled with fun, and the students made us very proud. Along with achieving some great wins, they most importantly demonstrated an outstanding commitment to our school values. Well done to everyone who participated!

MATHS FUN

The Year 3/4 students have continued exploring a range of addition strategies through fun and engaging games. We hope they’ve come home and shared some of their favourite ones with you!  Next week, we will continue building on these skills. So far, students have practised strategies such as counting on, using a number line, and applying their doubles facts.
