Lenny Mierla (8 Green) – Victorian High Abilities Program (VHAP)

Lenny Mielra was part of a group of students selected to participate in a Term long VHAP extension program, aimed at extending students in either English or Maths. Lenny has been good enough to provide an account of his VHAP experience and learning. Well done Lenny.

Since the beginning of the year I have been participating in English VHAP, our online class has been focused on dystopian texts and films. Learning about dystopian societies has been an incredibly interesting experience and I would highly recommend it to those interested in participating. Over the term our class has been discussing similarities, differences and the warnings that dystopian fiction displays. I was introduced to several books, movies and short stories relating to dystopian societies and was amazed at the number of opportunities I could opt into and the overall fantastic world of a genre that I wasn’t aware existed until I accepted my invitation to join VHAP. I got a lot out of VHAP, after spending almost 9 weeks extending my learning, I feel more independent and knowledgeable in English, a topic that can be seen as tedious has been turned into a fun, interactive experience that I believe everyone should try.
