Careers Update

VTAC

Our Year 12 VCE students are currently working through an important stage in planning for their future, with applications for 2027 university, TAFE and other study and training pathways being submitted through VTAC. We encourage families to support students in completing their VTAC applications by the timely application deadline in late September to avoid additional fees. This is also a good time for students to carefully consider whether they may be eligible for Equity Schemes or Scholarships.

Equity Schemes can provide additional consideration for students who have experienced circumstances that may have affected their educational journey, while scholarships can provide valuable financial support towards future study. Students are encouraged to explore these opportunities and consider whether they meet the eligibility criteria.

The deadline for Equity Schemes and Scholarship applications is 5pm on Friday 9 October 2026. It is important that students allow plenty of time to complete these applications and gather any supporting evidence or documentation they may need. Some applications require statements, letters or other evidence to support the circumstances outlined and this evidence needs to be submitted by the deadline. If evidence is required, starting the process early will help ensure there is enough time to obtain the necessary documentation before the 9 October deadline.

These applications can make a valuable difference to students' future opportunities, so we encourage all to take the time to investigate what may be available and seek support if required.

Accommodation On Campus 

Any Year 12 students considering living on campus at university next year will need to apply direct to each university, including any as soon as applications are open via each university website. On-campus accommodation options fill very quickly.

VM Structured Workplace Learning

Meanwhile, our VM students are continuing to complete their Structured Workplace Learning (SWL) placements. These experiences are providing valuable opportunities to develop real world skills, connect with industry and gain hands on experience in their chosen fields. 

We would also like to congratulate our students who have successfully gained apprenticeships this year, whether that be full time or school based. This is an outstanding achievement and we are incredibly proud of the effort, dedication and determination they have shown in securing these opportunities. 

We are proud of all our Year 12 students as they take these important steps toward life beyond school and encourage families to support them through this exciting stage of their journey. 

Tafe Gippsland

On Thursday 3rd September, TAFE Gippsland conducted a session for all Year 12 students to consider pathways and courses for 2027. The session was designed to support both Vocational Major (VM) and VCE students' career choices beyond secondary school. 

Year 9 Morrisby 

Well done to our Year 9 students who recently completed their Morrisby Career Profiling. It was fantastic to see students approach the profiling with such focus and determination.

In Term 4, each student will have a 30-minute individual interview with a Morrisby-trained career counsellor to explore and unpack their results. These conversations will give students the opportunity to better understand their strengths, interests, abilities and potential areas for further exploration.

Morrisby Career Profiling is designed to help young people discover their strengths, develop their potential and take greater ownership of their career planning. It provides students with valuable insights into themselves while encouraging them to explore a range of future study and career possibilities.

We look forward to supporting our Year 9 students as they use these insights to build confidence and take their next steps towards planning for their future.

Girls in Blue

What an inspiring day at the Girls in Blue Program for three of our students. Female students from across Baw Baw and Latrobe enjoyed a behind-the-scenes look at life in Victoria Police - from Forensics and Highway Patrol to Prosecutions and the Criminal Investigation Unit. The day kicked off with a station tour in Moe, followed by a powerful presentation at Moe Town Hall about careers in the force and the recruitment journey. The students enjoyed pizza for lunch - fueling up for the highlight of the day: the Living Library. 

Ten incredible female officers became 'books,' sharing their career stories in small group chats. Students chose two 'books' to 'read,' asking questions and hearing firsthand what it’s like to serve in different roles across Victoria Police. The annual event, led by the Baw Baw and Latrobe Proactive Policing Units continues to spark passion and purpose in our future leaders.
