Infants and Primary

Infants

What a great big, busy and bright term for our Infants students! A highlight has been working towards and taking part in our first ever Boorowa Central School Showcase Evening. All students spent time practicing, preparing and refining for their class contributions, and it was fabulous to see it all come together last Wednesday evening. Well done to all involved, and thank you to all the family and friends that were able to join us for the evening to get a first hand look at some of the wonderful learning and opportunities across the curriculum that we have at our school.

We have welcomed several new students and their families to our school recently. It has been fantastic to see them all settling in and quickly becoming familiar with our school routines and expectations. It is always great to see our students stepping up to help new faces and build positive relationships.

As the term draws to a close next week, everyone is looking forward to the chance to relax a little and reset over the holiday period. Wishing all of our students and families a safe and happy break from the end of next week.

Kindergarten

Kindergarten thoroughly enjoyed performing ‘The Silly Postman’ for visitors to the Showcase Evening last week. Lots of time had been spent rehearsing in the weeks leading up to this, and it was wonderful to see them shine on stage!

In Mathematics, we have been focusing on measuring. We have discovered that containers hold various different amounts, and sometimes the size of the container can be deceiving. Pouring and testing predictions helped us come to this conclusion. We are continuing to practice counting and identifying counting patterns to help us become more efficient mathematicians. All students are very proud of how high they can count to, as well as how high they can record numerals to. These skills help set them up for success as mathematical problems become more complex and they work with larger numbers.

In sport we have been enjoying working with our friends in Year 1/2 to build our ball skills. We have practiced hitting balls, aiming at targets, throwing and kicking accurately – all important skills that are used in all ball games and sports. Over the coming weeks we will continue to focus on ball skills in line with the rest of K-6 as we prepare for the upcoming Boorowa Touch and Netball Carnival early in Term 4.

A Special Visit from Boorowa Rotary Club

On Tuesday, our Kindergarten students were delighted to welcome members of the Boorowa Rotary Club for a special visit.

Mrs Carter, Mrs Diskon and Mrs Poplin spoke to the students about Rotary’s support for literacy during September. They then presented each Kindergarten student with a special book to enjoy and take home, encouraging a love of reading and helping to develop important literacy skills.

The students were thrilled with their special gifts and thanked their visitors by entertaining them with a song.

A big thank you to the Boorowa Rotary Club for their generosity and for supporting literacy in our school community.

Literacy in Action!

There has been some fantastic learning happening across our Years 3–6 classrooms as we continue to refine our Literacy Block!

Each morning, students begin with Heggerty Phonemic Awareness before moving into explicit spelling, grammar, punctuation and vocabulary lessons. Using our I Do → We Do → You Do approach, students are supported to practise new skills before confidently applying them independently.

Our paired fluency reading has become another favourite part of the routine, with students reading together and providing each other with valuable feedback. We have also seen some amazing growth in writing, particularly as students learn to develop strong PEEL paragraphs and put their growing literacy skills into practice.

After the first part of our Literacy Block, students enjoy a Fundamental Movement Skills break before returning refreshed and ready to write!

It has been wonderful to see how confidently our students have embraced these routines and how much their skills have grown throughout the year. We are incredibly proud of our Primary learners and love seeing their literacy learning in action every day!
