Showcase Evening Success

The was an absolute pleasure to host Boorowa Central School’s first Showcase Evening last Wednesday night. Visitors had the opportunity to first visit the open preschool before viewing and interacting with a wide variety of student learning displays, watch performances on the big stage, vote for their favourite artwork in the gallery, guess the weight of the steers and sheep, test their fitness components and enjoy food and drinks provided by both the              Year 11/12 hospitality classes and provided by the P and C.

Overall, the night was a huge success with some minor tweaks for our next showcase evening.

Thank you to all of the families who joined us for the evening, our students and staff thoroughly enjoyed showcasing the learning that happens on a day-to-day basis here at Boorowa Central School.

The Showcase Evening and SMArt and Drama Night will now operate on a 2-yearly cycle. This year was the Showcase Evening, next year will be SMArt and Drama Night. This approach was adopted after reflection on the purpose of SMArt and Drama night as well as the desire to show the community more of what the students learn each and every day.

Dollar for Dusty visit

Boorowa Central School was a buzzing with excitement on Thursday last week with Dusty stopping in before continuing his walk to Canberra. Dusty was walking from his hometown of Warren to Canberra to raise funds for Little Wings so they can bring more paediatricians to regional and remote communities.

Dusty spoke with our K-6 students before being presented with money from our Student Representative Council (SRC), funds raised by the P&C cookie sales and gold coin donations on the day. The whole school then gave Dusty and his crew a guard of honour as they exited the school site en route to Yass.

Dusty’s story is an inspirational reminder to our students that they can really do anything they put their minds to. Well done, Dusty!

Year 12 – Class of 2026

Next week is our Year 12 Class of 2026’s last week of schooling at Boorowa Central School. This will be celebrated with Year 12 dressing in mufti, each day a different theme. On Thursday, we will gather in the Hall for the Year 12 Graduation Assembly, the last school-based event that these students will attend. These assemblies are always bittersweet for the graduating students. For years, they have been focused on the finish line, the destination, the end of school. However, in the assembly the reality will hit them. They have finally made it. No more classes, no more homework, no more seeing your friends each and every day. They will reflect on their time at school and be reminded of the good times. There will be videos and photos of these times with many students and staff who have moved on.

After the graduation assembly, they will host a ‘muck-up’ assembly, a Boorowa Central tradition, and look for opportunities to have with staff and students alike. They will then move on to ‘mucking-up’ the entire school (tastefully) for the viewing pleasure of all the following morning. Personally, this is my favourite day of the year. I always arrive early to appreciate the carnage before cooking a BBQ breakfast for the Year 12’s and the staff.

Then finally, their focus will switch back to examination preparation as they have 2 weeks to put the finishing touches on their knowledge and understanding of their subjects. Some are aiming for university degrees, other apprenticeships. Some have a full-time job lined up and others are taking the year to have a gap year or to figure out what it is they wish to do.

What ever pathway our class of 2026 chooses, I am proud to have called them a student at Boorowa Central School and hope that they find happiness in their future after school.

I look forward to bumping into them in the future to hear about the amazing things they have been doing and how great their life is.

To the Year 12 class of 2026, I wish you the very best for your upcoming exmainations.

Year 12 Assessment changes

The NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) released new advice last week which all schools are expected to implement in Term 4 for the Year 12 cohort of 2026/27. NESA has introduced a new limit to assessment tasks that can be completed at home throughout the year for each course. From Term 4 2026, Year 12 school-based assessment programs can have no more than one take-home assessment task, worth a maximum weighting of 15%. This means that the majority of assessment tasks will be completed at school, in class.

This change has been introduced to maintain the integrity of assessment tasks and reduce the potential impact of Generative AI use by students.

This change will also apply for Year 11 from the beginning of 2027.

Preschool Update

Boorowa Central School’s Public preschool has opened for service. Our first children and their parents arrived Monday to enjoy the very best of preschool environments and learning experiences from our highly trained and excited educators.

The preschool will be officially opened soon with the date to be confirmed by the minister’s office. This will involve a minister or politician, local media and an opportunity to showcase our preschool.

If are interested in a preschool enrolment for the remainder of 2026 or for 2027, please go to the school’s website and complete the Expression of Interest Form. https://boorowa-c.schools.nsw.gov.au/preschool
