Year One Newsletter – Week 10
We would like to thank all of our wonderful Grade One students for a fantastic term. They have worked incredibly hard and should be very proud of everything they have achieved!
Over the last two weeks in Literacy, we have been learning the new letter patterns 'ear' and 'eer', which make the /ear/ sound. We have also learnt the letter patterns 'air' and 'are', which make the /air/ sound. As part of our writing program, students learnt about the three different types of clouds (stratus, cumulus and cirrus) and wrote informative pieces using headings and subheadings to organise their facts.
In Mathematics, we finished our unit on grouping and sharing. To celebrate all of our learning, students enjoyed a range of hands-on mathematical games and activities, including some delicious maths with M&M's!
In Media Arts, students have been exploring how to create their own stories. They designed and drew their own characters, explored the different elements of a story, and created their own comic strips.
In Religion, we concluded our unit on Creation by completing a landscape artwork using paper and coloured pencils or crayons. Students thoughtfully included a variety of God's creations in their designs.
That brings us to the end of Term 3! We hope all of our students and their families have a safe, relaxing, and enjoyable holiday break. We look forward to welcoming everyone back for our final term together and another exciting term of learning!
YEAR 2 - End of Term 3:
As we come to the end of Term 3, we would like to congratulate all of our Year 2 students on a wonderful term. We are so proud of their dedication to learning, caring attitudes towards their peers, and commitment to always doing their personal best.
We hope all children and their families enjoy a well-deserved and relaxing spring break. We look forward to welcoming everyone back for an exciting Term 4.
In the past 2 weeks, students have completed a number of assessments in both Numeracy and Literacy. In Numeracy, they demonstrated their understanding of the four operations. In Literacy, students completed their comprehension assessment, tricky word testing, cumulative spelling review, and WARP testing. WARP is a reading assessment that measures the average number of words a child can accurately read per minute across three different passages. The final assessment for the term was a Wellbeing survey online.
Students have also worked hard to complete their Inquiry learning in Media Arts and our Religion unit, Let's Care for Creation. We have been impressed by their enthusiasm and thoughtful contributions throughout these learning experiences.
To add to the excitement of the end of the term, the school was rewarded with a fun afternoon of “Teacher Swap” experience. Year 2 students enjoyed their afternoon with Mrs. Allen and Mrs. Newman. Ask your child about the card games they played during the session and how they enjoyed spending time with their Foundation Teachers again.
Finally, today the students walked into the classroom very proudly in their footy colours for the last day for Term 3. Lots of conversations about their favourite teams were shared amongst us all. Good luck to those who still have a team in the finals.
Term 4 Dates for Your Diary
Thursday 15 October - Friday 16 October Year 2 Sleepover
An information note was sent out this week with specific details of the event. Please check your emails and start chatting with your child over the holidays.
We understand that families may have questions or concerns about the Year 2 Sleepover. This experience provides a wonderful stepping stone towards future school camps and helps students develop independence and confidence. While we recognise that this can bring some anxieties, we are committed to ensuring the experience is positive, supportive, and enjoyable for all students. Please do not hesitate to contact your child's teacher if you have any questions or concerns.
