A.F.L.
- an Australian cultural game
The A.F.L. Cultural Footy Game is a fun and inclusive event that celebrates Australia’s love of football while recognising the rich diversity of cultures within the school and community.
Westall students in year 8 are learning basic Australian Rules Football skills such as handballing, marking, kicking, and teamwork before taking part in a modified game that encourages participation, respect, and fair play. The focus is on sharing cultural pride, building connections, and promoting the values of teamwork and belonging — showing how sport can bring people from all backgrounds together.
On Thursday 16th October, the school organized the St Kilda Football Club to run a clinic at lunch and it was a huge success with all ages. Jirah and Noah were great leaders and they helped their teams to play. Year 8s will be playing a Samoan traditional sport called ‘Touch Rugby’ and this will go on for two weeks.

i-Create Elite Training students visit the Victorian Institute of Sport
On the 15th of October, iCreate Elite Training students visited the Victorian Institute of Sport (VIS) in Albert Park. Students engaged in an informative presentation from Olympic bronze medallist Ryhdian Cowley (racewalking) and future Australian Olympians Charlotte Hodgson (Hockey) and Ryley Rametta (Judo) about what it takes to become an elite athlete.
We were then taken on a tour of the VIS facilities, including the gym and recovery centres, where they saw many Olympic and future-Olympic athletes training. The highlight of the excursion for many of our students was getting to race Rhydian Cowley in a short sprint. Some of our students even managed to beat Rhydian, although they were sprinting while he was only walking.
