iCreate Aviation Excursion – Moorabbin Airport

On 5 November, our iCreate Aviation students took part in an exciting and highly engaging excursion to Moorabbin Airport. Throughout the day, students were able to see first-hand how a busy airport functions, observing ground operations, aircraft movements, and the important safety procedures that keep everything running smoothly.

Students explored a range of training aeroplanes and learnt about the different stages of pilot training and the skills needed to work in the aviation industry. A highlight for many was the opportunity to sit in and explore a real aeroplane, giving them a close-up look at the cockpit, controls and instruments they have been learning about in class.

The excursion helped to bring their classroom learning to life and deepen their understanding of real-world aviation. It also inspired many students to think more seriously about future pathways in aviation and related careers. Overall, it was a valuable experience that combined hands-on learning, curiosity, and plenty of excitement.

Aim High – Immigration Museum Excursion

On Wednesday 29th October, the Westall Aim High students attended a workshop at the Immigration Museum. The HistoryLab session focused on building students’ critical thinking and questioning skills.

Students were able to handle and analyse a range of historical and contemporary sources and ask meaningful questions about their origin, purpose, and authorship. They worked together to ascertain key information such as date of production and contextual influences.

Students were then given an opportunity to explore the museum’s collections and displays. They got to see the history of migration in Australia and even reflect on some of theirs or their parents’ own journeys.

Thank you to Ms Anna Papagiannopoulos and Mr Hieu Tran for accompanying the students on this excursion.

Aim High - Inquiry Project Update

For the pilot year of our Aim High Program, students in Year 7 and 8 have been working in groups to produce a speculative presentation on the Victoria of the Future.

In building their presentation, students have been able to stretch their skills in the four core subjects of English, Mathematics, Science and Humanities. They have also made use of a range of other important knowledge and abilities learned in their other subjects at Westall.

Students will present their projects on Monday 1st December at 4pm.

We invite parents and staff alike to come and support our Westall Aim High students on this day!

Thank you to Ms Smrithi Buyya, Mr Hieu Tran, Ms Anna Papagiannopoulos and Mr Jason Tickner for their support and guidance of the Aim High Program this year.

i-Create Elite Training students visit the Victorian Institute of Sport

On the 15th of October, iCreate Elite Training students visited the Victorian Institute of Sport (VIS) in Albert Park. Students engaged in an informative presentation from Olympic bronze medallist Ryhdian Cowley (racewalking) and future Australian Olympians Charlotte Hodgson (Hockey) and Ryley Rametta (Judo) about what it takes to become an elite athlete.

We were then taken on a tour of the VIS facilities, including the gym and recovery centres, where they saw many Olympic and future-Olympic athletes training. The highlight of the excursion for many of our students was getting to race Rhydian Cowley in a short sprint. Some of our students even managed to beat Rhydian, although they were sprinting while he was only walking.

Opening of the Westall SC Museum on Friday 10th October 2025

Our museum in classroom B4, was officially opened on Friday 10th October, followed by an afternoon tea with current and past, staff and students.

The student leaders did a great job putting this altogether led by Sofia, Ally, Amber and Bilal. Lisa and Alex have also assisted with a range of things including climbing under the buildings at Clayton South Primary School to recover an old student flip desk from the 1960’s. Many other staff and students have contributed bits and pieces over the journey putting this together.

We did have some ex-students and staff come in including, the 1963-65 School Captain (Brian Hill) and his wife. Our very first school captain when the school was opened in 1963.

Thanks to the following staff for supporting this project - Lisa, Alex, Barb and Lee, and the student leaders have been amazing putting all this together  - Sofia, Ally, Amber and Bilal. Thank you to everyone involved in this project.
