Upper Secondary (Years 9-10)

Week 7 and the Upper Secondary students and staff were preparing for The Lady Northcote Camp trip. Students had researched the venue, activities and daily timetable and the students who were not able to attend made a ‘fun learning’ timetable to keep them engaged. Wednesday arrived and nervous excitement was in the air. Students arrived with their suitcases, not really sure what the next few days would hold – Independence, Initiative, Team Building, Communication, Technology, Planning and Organisation, Learning, Problem Solving, Self-Management and FUN were the order of each day!

Activities enjoyed were Canoeing, Yabbying, Raft Building, Scavenger Hunt, Toasting Marshmallows around the fire pit, Human Foos Ball, Disco and Movie Night to name a few.

The food was great with chicken, chocolate mousse, pasta, hamburgers and ice cream being the favourites.

The students that remained at school enjoyed a great excursion to Highpoint, camping in the classroom, cooking pizza, perfect pancakes and making popcorn for a movie afternoon.

Week 8 and we had our first ‘step up’ day. Students were able to preview their class and teacher for next year, in 2 fun, activity-based sessions. A further National ‘step up’ day will be held on Tuesday the 9th of December where all new students will be attending.

This week we celebrated the creativity of all the students with opening of the Art Show. Everyone had their work displayed in the hall, which was viewed by parents and friends at the opening on Wednesday evening. On Thursday the show was open to the whole school to visit throughout the day.

Also on Thursday, the Hands-on Learning group, HOL, went to the Royal Botanical Gardens to attend the Victoria Schools Garden Programme awards. At this event, Jackson students were the recipients of the Best Habitat Garden award - Well Done HOL 😊

A busy week, which will only get busier as the term comes to a close and reports, planning and concerts take Centre stage!
