Division Winter Finals and Hawthorn

What an exciting week we have had in Interschool Sports and extra-curricular activities in week 3.

Winter Round Robin Division Finals

This year we 3 of our Year 5/6 Winter Round Robin teams progress through to Division. On Tuesday our Girls Soccer team played a fantastic day of soccer. We won 2 pool games and drew 1 which meant we finished 2nd in our pool on goal difference. We lost our final which meant we finished 4th overall out of 8 schools.

On Thursday both our Girls Teeball team and Boys Footy team competed at the Knox Division finals. Both teams days followed the same script as soccer on Tuesday, finishing 4th overall.

All 3 of these events required help from our parent community with transportation of students to and from the event. Thank you very much to those who put their hand up and saved everyone a bit of money on bus fees!

Hoop Time

Monday saw our Year 5/6 All Star Boys and Girls team play at their Hoop Time day. Students had been training for a number of weeks in their teams in preparation for the day. We had some pretty impressive results, with our girls team finishing in 3rd place and our boys team finishing in 2nd place. The boys have booked themselves a spot at the Knox Division Basketball Championships in Term 4. Thank you to Michael and Kyle for coaching the teams! Our Senior Future Stars and Rookies will have their day on Thursday 15 August, whilst our Year 3 and 4 teams will play on Wednesday, 4 September. I am still after parent helpers to either coach or score for a team on these days, please email me matthew.davey2@education.vic.gov.au if you can help on the day.

AFL Player Appearance

On Tuesday afternoon, our Year 3-6 students were treated to a Q&A and autograph signing session with 10 listed Hawthorn players. That’s right, 10!

Normally schools only get 2 or 3 players so we should consider ourselves incredibly lucky! Players of note include 3 time premiership player Luke Bruest, James Worpel, Ned Reeves, Jai Newcombe, Finn McGuiness and Massimo D’Ambrosio.

It was also great to see Josh Bennetts and Clay Tucker, both of whom are from our local community, having played juniors at Rowville and Lysterfield.
