Ministry

I heard recently the phrase 'The foundation of a building doesn’t look spectacular. It’s only at the end that it is appreciated for what it is. But get that foundation wrong, and that’s all people talk about when the building falls down.'

When I walk past the site of the new junior school, I see that a lot of time, effort, and energy going into that foundation. The solid start is what is going to make for a beautiful finish.

The same is true in our own lives. Solid starts make a difference.

Recently, I’ve been involved in baptising a baby, born to an old scholar from Endeavour.

Her family is putting a lot of time, effort, and energy into giving their child what she needs, so that she grows up well and has a successful life.

Tania Nelson, the new Ministry Lead at Mawson Lakes Community Church (located here at Endeavour), is seeking to have a solid foundation in her role. A foundation of grace, mercy, and forgiveness, so that people experience the joy of God’s love in their lives. And I’ve got the joy, and hard work, of helping a ministry project in our region that could impact countless lives in the years to come. It is slow now, and doesn’t look like much, but one day it could be something beautiful.

Showing someone God’s love can be the same. It can be slow to start, and we might not make an impact on their lives initially. But over time, when someone knows we are on their side, they begin to trust us, and we can truly serve and bless them. Eventually, they may see God’s love through us and realise just how much God loves them, how much God loves us all.

At Endeavour, as we educate students, we also want them to know that they are loved.

That teachers and staff are on their side.

That the student leaders truly care about each student they serve. Some students realise immediately that they are in a great community, that they are loved. Others take longer. But by the time a student finishes at Endeavour, our hope and prayer is that they have been built with the love of God, that it is part of the design of this place, and that they leave here as a beautiful human being, built by God, their family, and us.

God bless you today.
