What's Been Happening in Year 1
As part of our Inquiry unit, Year 1 students will had the exciting opportunity to visit the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) and explore one of Australia’s most iconic sporting landmarks.
Students visited the Australian Sports Museum, where they discovered how sport has helped shape Australia’s national identity. Through interactive experiences, students explored sporting stories. They took part in an MCG Tour, giving them the opportunity to explore areas of the stadium that are usually off-limits to the public. Expert guides shared stories about the MCG’s history, famous sporting moments and athletes, as well as what happens behind the scenes on match day.
What's Been Happening in Year 5
Our Year 5 students recently participated in the engaging “Turn Your Classroom into a Thriving Democracy!” incursion, bringing their Civics and Citizenship learning to life. Students explored the fundamentals of Australian democracy, including the difference between rules and laws and the roles and responsibilities of the three levels of government. They also participated in a mock classroom council election, learning about preferential voting, redistribution and absolute majorities. Students then stepped into the roles of Councillors and community residents during an interactive council meeting, where they debated real community issues, contributed to discussions and made decisions. The incursion provided students with a hands-on opportunity to develop their understanding of democracy, government and decision-making, while seeing how local government helps shape our communities.
