Our Lady's Music Soiree

Last week, we had our Semester 2 Music Soiree. Many students had the chance to go to the music room and perform a piece of music in front of parents and teachers. It was a good opportunity for students to show off their music skills and build their confidence. We interviewed some people who participated in this soiree to tell us about their experience.

On Tuesday, I went and performed at the music soiree. It started off with Mrs B and Mr Lazurus performing a song. After the song, I played the drums to a song called Blinding Lights by The Weeknd. During the performances, I felt very fabulous and nervous. I really looked up to Marcus because he was amazing when he played the drums. Later, we all received certificates for our amazing performances, and overall I had an amazing experience. After getting my certificate, I  went to KFC with my whole family.

On Tuesday the 13th of October, I performed a song at the music soiree. I played ‘Can’t Stop' by Red Hot Chilli Peppers on drums. Before I got up and started playing, I felt a bit scared and nervous at the same time. But when I did start playing, all my nerves and stress seemed to calm down. After I played, I got off the drum kit and took a big bow, while everyone clapped for me. Once it was all finished and we got our certificates, my family and I went to China Bar as a treat. I ordered some calamari. Overall, I would rate this experience 20 out of 10. I hope this music soiree will happen again next year and for all the years after that.

A big thank you to Mrs B, Mr Lazarus, Mrs Glouftsis, and Mrs Mancuso for making this night happen and to the teachers who came to watch and support. Most importantly, thank you to the parents for always supporting their children and bringing them along to perform.

Year 5 Swimming

Last week the Year 5s went to SPLASH to swim and learn about water safety. They had a great time as this experience was both fun and educational.  Joel told us about his experience.

On Monday, we arrived at school, and we had 2 sessions of writing and reading. After break, we changed our shoes into thongs and got ready to leave for the bus. Once we reached Splash, we changed into our bathers, then we lined up in our swimming levels.  We learned freestyle and backstroke, and some of the other levels got to do dives in the deep pool and even learned how to do the backstroke and butterfly.

Some of the games we played were Marco Polo, Fruit Salad and many more. After we did that, we got out of the pool and got dressed, ready to go back to school. On Friday, the higher levels wore pyjamas for Water Safety Day. For the lower levels, we wore lifejackets, and we began some activities to save our friends. Some were throwing the rope in the pool, and we learned about swimming scenarios and what to do when things happen.

We tested our durability by treading water for as long as we could. The pyjamas gave us a challenge because they were heavier than normal swim clothes to replicate real life. Then for the last time, we gave a wave to our swimming teachers and got dressed, ready to go back to school.

World Teachers Day

World Teachers' Day is next Friday, October 30th. This is a special day to recognise all the teachers in our lives who constantly dedicate their time to teaching us new things. Every day, they encourage us to try our best and explore new ways of learning. Thank you to all the wonderful teachers at our school for always helping us do our very best in everything we do!

Joke of the fortnight

Q: Why couldn't the skeleton go to the party?

A: Because he was stuck in the LIVING room
