Monash Heights Division Sports

AFL
Last Friday, our Level 6 AFL team competed in the Monash Waverley Division AFL competition.
The boys battled through the cold, windy conditions to produce some quality football. The team had a terrific round robin competition only letting through 2 points in their 2 games to progress through to the semi finals.
Another dominating win in the Semi Finals meant we were up against our District Competition, Mt Scopus. They had comprehensively beaten us by 70 points during the year, so they boys knew this was going to be a tough game.
To the team's credit, they played their hearts out and in a close game, we went down by only 7 points. An awesome turn around from earlier in the year.
Congratulations to all the boys that participated in this event and representing Jells Park so well.
The Year 6 Boys AFL 9’s team hit the field last Friday on the 25th of July like a squad of young talented boys. We didn’t disappoint.
We started the day with two dominant wins in our pool matches, showing off some good passing, solid teamwork, and a few run in goals. We were in tune from the first ball up, and by the end of the pool games, we were sitting undefeated on top in our pool.
In the semi-final, we faced off against Brandon Park P.S. Thanks to our awesome mids and forwards, we moved the ball beautifully and put up a strong scoreline. The result was a comfy win and a slot in the Grand Final.
Now, here’s where things got serious. Sworn mortal enemies Mount Scopus Memorial College. After losing by over 70 points last time we played them, we knew we had a challenge ahead of us. They came out firing.
Within the first few minutes, they slotted in some blinders that had us on the back foot early. At halftime, we were behind by 20 points, but Jells Park don’t give away games like Christmas presents.
We regrouped, refocused, and came out in the second half ready for war. The defenders were brick walls, our midfield moved the ball efficiently, and our forwards did everything they could to even the score. It was tough, and quite the challenge.
When the final whistle blew, we were just 8 points short. A nail-biter of a finish, which had us on the edge of our seat. It was an incredible effort by every single player on that field. Our intensity in the second half was outstanding!!!
Huge shoutout to our defenders who didn’t give up an inch in the second half and kept them scoreless.
Midfielders were running like they had extra batteries.
And our forwards? Strong, accurate, and relentless.
Special mention to the team spirit – no heads down, just pride and effort till the end.
We may have finished runners-up, but we walked away as a team full of pride, fire, and friendship. The boys represented Jells Park Primary with heart, humour, and a heap of hustle. Well done boys!
A massive thank you to Mr Zach for coaching us through all the ups and downs, logistics, organising, and umpiring. The day couldn’t be made without you.
Thankyou to all the parents that dropped us off, supported, and nourished these big strong, Australian Rules Football players.

Boys Soccer
On Wednesday, July 30th, the soccer boys and I headed to Gardner Reserve for our division soccer tournament.
We arrived at 9:30 AM, ready to play three games—with the chance to compete in the semi-finals if we made the cut, which would mean playing five.
We ended up placing 5th overall.
Our first match was against Pinewood, and it was a tight game—we lost 1-0.
In the second round, we bounced back with a strong 3-1 win against St. Luke's.
Unfortunately, our final game against St. Justins ended in a 3-0 loss, which knocked us out of the competition.
After that, a few of us returned to school, proud of the effort we put in and the teamwork we showed throughout the day. Talal A 6P
Girls Soccer
Our Girls Soccer team ventured out to Gardeners Reserve in Burwood on Tuesday to compete in the Monash Waverley Division soccer competition.
Our girls, which had limited soccer experience, showed great spirit and effort in every game. They improved throughout the day and linked up well to put a score on the board in their final 2 games.
We unfortunately did not win any of our Round Robin games throughout the day but played off in a consolation game which they won 2-0.
A terrific effort by a determined group of girls.
Mixed Netball
On Wednesday, our Level 6 Mixed Netball team competed in the Monash Waverley Division Competition.
The team had a tremendous start to the day, winning their 3 pool games in comprehensive fashion to progress through to the semi finals.
The team was matched with tougher competition in the Semi Final, however they worked well together to be victorious by 5 goals and progress through to the Grand Final.
We were up against our District rivals, Mt Waverley who had beaten us during last Terms District Competition by 22 goals. The team knew this was going to be a tough game. They stuck with Mt Waverley for the first half only trailing by 1 point at half time. However, Mt Waverley came out with a flurry of 10 unanswered goals to lead by 11 with 5 minutes to play. From there our team struggled to claw back the lead and ended up going down by 13. A huge improvement from earlier in the year.
A runners up pennant for our team is a terrific achievement.
Congratulations to all the boys and girls that participated in this event and representing Jells Park so well.
