Careers

Hello Parents/Guardians and Community Members,

Term three looks set to be a very busy term in Careers, with our Year 12 students finalising their post school planning and attending their final interviews. Our Year 8, 10 and Year 11 cohorts are all in the process of commencing their subject selections for our next year. We also have several excursions coming up for our Year 10 cohort such as the Try a Trade Day in Wagga on the 21st of August and a Wagga Wagga TAFE tour, as well as visits from ADF on the 18th August and the possibility to attend a few industry tours with local employers in the coming few weeks.

Subject Selections Night

Wednesday 30th July 2025

Tonight, we are holding our 2026 Subject Selection Information night which we encourage all our families, parents, guardians and students to attend in the school hall commencing at 6pm. This is an important night to gain information about the process of selecting your senior subjects and gaining information on the structure of the HSC, requirements of NESA as well as what the ATAR is and how it is calculated as well as information about School Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships (SBAT’s). Parents and Carers along with students will have the opportunity to speak with expert teachers on specific subject areas.

Year 12 Early Entry University & UAC Applications & University Open Days

Many of our Year 12 students have been busy preparing their university early entry applications and meeting with me in the careers office to fine tune their applications and responses to specific university criteria. Students are encouraged to continue to make appointments to seek assistance with this process.

*Many of the universities have their Open Days coming up in the next few months and to assist students to decide between universities and campus, I recommend students attend with their parents and carers so that you can see first-hand what accommodation options are available and what the process is to apply for accommodation and access the various resources and information to allow you to make informed choices as you transition to tertiary studies post school.

*Most of these are shared on our Facebook page so parents can know when these events are taking place.

If parents and carers are keen to seek more information or guidance on this process, please reach out to the Careers office for further information.

Year 12 Careers Transition Interviews

Careers Planning and Transition interviews with all our Year 12 students continue this term and our Year 12 students have a busy final term planned out. I encourage all Year 12 to attend a post school career planning interview, so they can have an idea of the next steps they wish to take in as they transition to post school employment, apprenticeships or training at either TAFE or University.  If parents or carers wish to attend these interviews, please call the careers office and we can schedule a time that suits you. As part of this transition process, we are also working on each students Employment Portfolio and students have access to templates and programs to assist them to write their Resumes, Personal Statements and prepare their Employment Portfolio folders. Each student in Year 12 have been provided with a grey folder they can use for job interviews. If any student has missed collecting their folder, please come and see me in the careers office.

Australian Defence Force Visit

Monday 18th August 2025

We will have a visit from the ADF to discuss careers, gap years and entry pathways into the defence force, as well as students participating in the ADF Personal Training Challenge. This event will be for our Year 10 cohort and interested senior students.

Try a Trade Day & Wagga TAFE Excursion

Thursday 21st August 2025

We also have another great excursion coming up for our Year 10 cohort to explore all the Trades based careers at the Try a Trade Day in Wagga on 21st August. At this event, many employers across the Riverina will be in attendance with hands on displays and information on all things Trades and Vocational Courses from TAFE and other RTO’s. This is a fantastic showcase of many careers, such as nursing, early childhood education, hairdressing, beauty, electrical, construction, mechanical and many other trades. Notes will come home soon with more details.
