Bendigo Sheep & Wool Show 2025

On Thursday the 18th of July a small group of dedicated students and parents travelled to Bendigo to present their Angora Goats at the 2025 Bendigo Sheep and Wool Show.

In the weeks prior to the weekend the stage 5 students prepared 18 Angora’s and 20 Mohair Fleeces for judging. On arrival the animals were unloaded and placed in opens along with their feed, water and name cards.

The fleeces were then unpacked and presented for judging by Mr John Hoornweg from Australian Mohair Services. Alexa was given the opportunity to act as an associate judge during this competition and gained valuable experience and insights into the finer points of fleece judging.

The school was successful in many of the classes with ribbons of all colours been awarded to the Mohair presented, culmination in the Champion Fleece being awarded to one of the Doe Fleeces.

Moving into the Animal classes the animals were presented well by the students and the Judge was able to place many of the animals exhibited. In the final results, the school was successful in being awarded the Reserve Champion Doe.

The students were then put through their paces in the paradors competition followed the animals in which the students were assessed on their animal handling, ring craft and knowledge of the industry. Alexa was awarded first place with Grace second, followed by Isabel and Luc.

Concluding the formal Judging was the Junior Judging competition in which the students had to place four fleeces in order and then explain the reasons for their decision to the Over Judge. Isabel impressed the judge with her placings and explanation of her decisions and was awarded first place, with Alexa  and Grace being awarded equal second.
