From the School Council

Our names are Emily Adams and Anushka Prahdan, and we are your 2026 student representatives on the School Council. So far we have attended two meetings, and in this short time we have learned more than we ever thought about school policies, financial reports and child safety. Being on the School Council is incredibly fascinating and beneficial not only for us to contribute, but for the students to have someone that can represent them.
We have both been involved with leadership since the beginning of our time at MGSC, and we can both say that we have never been in an environment so inclusive, empowering and continuously presented with incredible opportunities that we have certainly taken at every chance.
We wanted to talk here about Student Forums at MGSC. In the past couple of years, student forums have been decreasingly active - but the student leaders wanted to change this. After planning and discussion, we are happy to say that our first student forum was held this week. Essentially, student forums are meetings with a small group of randomly selected students from all year levels, where a certain topic is discussed. The students chosen differ for each forum, making sure we get the widest range of student voice possible.
Student Forums are so important in supporting student voice at MGSC, topics discussed can range from well-being to school events, learning plans and anything of concern to our community. It's a safe supportive space to share thoughts, ideas and ensure all voices are central towards decision making. As student representatives, it is our role to communicate our peers' perspectives to shape outcomes that reflect relevant needs. Recently, student safety standards has been a key point of interest, this entails wellbeing policies, inclusion, complaint and help processes and equipping all staff to assist with this. Having student input into matters like these are imperative as it affects us and our learning everyday.
Once again, we are so grateful to be in the wonderful student representative position - contributing to make our school an even more inclusive, achieving, empowering and creative space. We are looking forward to more student forums in the future, shaping our journeys with as many possible voices.
Thank you
Emily Adams and Anushka Pradhan (Year 9)
