Teaching and Learning 

There have been a few changes to the Teaching and Learning Team this term. Jeannie Ta has moved into the role of Director of Assessment and Enhancement, and we welcome back Diana Gilbert, who is returning to MGSC in the role of Numeracy Learning Specialist & Mathematics Domain Leader.

Diana and Jeannie join the broader Teaching and Learning Team, which includes Jane Carter, our Literacy Learning Specialist & English Domain Leader; Jenny Connolly, Director of Curriculum, Pedagogy and Professional Learning; and Jonathan Hall, eLearning Specialist, Wendy Harvey, Leading Teacher of Performing Arts, Sheryn Bednarz Disability Inclusion Learning Specialist and our Learning Area Domain Leaders, Stefanie Cappuccio, Lisa Wintle, Jess Elloy, Emma Dickson and Sarah Scaramozzino . Together, the team continues to support staff and students across the school in strengthening learning growth, engagement and achievement.

A key focus for staff this term has been on Opportunities to Respond and checking for understanding. Through peer observations, teachers have been looking closely at how often students are actively engaged in thinking, answering, discussing and demonstrating their understanding during lessons. This focus supports teachers to make learning more visible, identify misconceptions early, and provide timely feedback and support to students.

Students in Years 8 to10 have participated in Elevate study skills sessions this semester. These sessions have focused on practical strategies to support organisation, revision, note-taking and exam preparation. Teachers have been following up these sessions in the classroom, helping students apply the strategies in their day to day learning. This work places students in a strong position to utilise these skills in their upcoming assessments and exams.

We look forward to continuing to work with students, staff and families to support high-quality teaching and learning across MGSC.
