FEAST OF SACRED HEART

Last Friday we celebrated the Feast of Sacred Heart which is our Feast day.

Further to the recognition of Sacred Heart, we celebrate our Mercy tradition.

We all attended mass and  welcomed Sr Pam and Sr Eileen who spoke to our students about the Mercy tradition.

We also welcomed Marli Kelly who represents Vinnies.  She spoke about the important role of Vinnies in supporting vulnerable families in our community.   Our donations to Vinnies show how we live out our Mercy values.  We are very grateful for the generosity of our families to the Vinnies winter appeal.  We were able to fill 6 baskets of non-perishable food to donate to this charity.  Our senior students represented the Mercy values of Compassion, Justice , Dignity, Excellence, Hospitality, Stewardship and Respect with beautiful chalk designs within our school and at the entrance!

We remember at this time one of our beautiful prayers  written about the founder of the Mercy Sisters

Dear God,

Thank You for the gift of women and their unique strength and compassion.

Inspired by the spirit of Catherine McAuley, may we embrace our call to serve others with love and humility.

Grant us the courage to uplift one another and to be a light in our communities.

Help us to recognize our dignity and purpose, and to advocate for those in need.

May we be instruments of Your peace and grace, striving always to reflect

 Your love in our lives.

Amen.

Mercy Values:

The core Mercy values, deeply grounded in the tradition of Catherine McAuley and the Sisters of Mercy, centre on;

*compassion,      *justice,

*respect,          *hospitality,

*service,           *courage.

In the Mercy tradition, Justice is the active commitment to fairness, equity, and human dignity, particularly for the vulnerable or marginalised. It goes beyond personal kindness, aiming to address the causes of inequality and build systemic change that ensures everyone receives their basic human rights and needs.

Key Aspects of Mercy Justice

Advocacy: Speaking out and taking action for systemic change on local and global scales.

Fairness: Treating everyone with equal dignity and giving each person their due, regardless of background.

Protecting the Vulnerable: Defending the rights of those who cannot advocate for themselves.
