Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program

Saying goodbye to a long, HOT Summer and hello to Autumn means a wonderful season of growing in the garden. While the soil is still warm it was great to clear out the old crops and plant lots of new seedlings. Broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, kale, wombok, lettuce and bok choi. We will add snow peas and prepare a bed for a crop of garlic. Our junior students revisited the parts of a plant, plant lifecycles and what plants need in order to grow, while our seniors looked at the different types of root systems and the variety of root vegetables that we eat.
We all enjoyed a week of cooking with the support of our wonderful parent volunteers. Our F - 2 students made Apple and Cinnamon Pancakes and years 3 - 6 prepared a beautiful meal to share. Oven Baked Spinach and Ricotta Gnocchi with a Leafy Salad and Herb Focaccia. Our sessions focussed on practicing safe knife skills, washing all of our dishes thoroughly and setting the tables carefully.
