Farm Enterprises

Grains
The tractor has been cranked up and students and staff are smashing out the hectares! The canola has all been sown, with oats going in as I type. The new rig was a bit slow to get going, but (fingers crossed) it's full steam ahead now. Year 12 students are reminded to check the seeding roster and be ready to go out to the tractor for their 8:00am or 1.05pm shift. Those completing seeding and spraying operations for their Certificate III in Agriculture units - be sure to complete all the required paperwork while you're out there!
Workshop and General
Students in both Year 11 and Year 12 have been working on fabricating a storage system for the feed supplements for the piggery enterprise. Lots of measuring, cutting, bending and working out angles for this project!
With seeding underway, we've broken out the old spray truck to use as a nurse tanker and discovered some wiring issues. Mr West has had the Year 11 students' problem solving, then rewiring the taillights, so the truck is safe to be on the road again.
Certificate III in Agriculture and Certificate III in Pork Production
Just a reminder to all students who are enrolled in Cert III in Ag and/or Cert III in Pork. You need to complete your Cert II in Ag as soon as you can so you can concentrate on completing all the elements involved in Cert III. That means sticking to your rostered groups on Farm. You have been placed in areas that will enable you to complete your observations for Cert II quickly. If you continue to swap groups, you will be hindering your completion. Any students who feel they need some extra time in the classroom to complete paperwork, please see Mrs Iles. Remember that you still need to be supervised, so this class time will be dependent on staff availability.
Weekend Duty
A quick reminder to those Year 12 students that only have one day left of weekend Farm duty to complete - please come down and see Mrs Iles to see where you can be rostered on to get this part of your Cert II signed off. With the sporting season now upon us, it is easier if you choose a day that you can be on Farm rather than you be rostered on and have to miss a game!
