Highlight on Foundation
Our Foundation students have been busy creating artworks that combine painting, collage, and drawing techniques. Read on to discover more about two of their recent artworks.
These delightful Foundation flowers came about because their Art Teacher (Ms McKavanagh) was painting a variety of flowers for a project and the students expressed wanting to paint flowers as well.
The students began with a directed draw to enable them to draw “long, fat petals” which lead to a large and successful flower. Students then mixed various blue paints together with black to learn that black is a very strong colour and can be very bossy towards other colours and make them very dark. After a dark background was painted, bright colors were added to the flower and finally sequins and glitter were used to add a beautiful sparkle!
In this second piece of Foundation artwork, the students examined the art of Jean-Michel Basquait and found that his artwork was often messy but it also carried many thoughts and ideas around being proud of ourselves and the achievements we make.
The students identified three recurring themes in Basquait’s work 1) dinosaur imagery 2) depiction of crowns and 3) words and letters and they used these three elements while creating their own artwork.
